The ideal would be to mix it up with distribution one third short, medium or long so that opponents cannot just swarm your defence and there is space everywhere.

Seems bizarre that against Southampton they had 3-4 players swamping our defence at one point.

You would expect that would create space for a pass into an empty midfield - but it just doesn't seem to happen.

That's exactly how I would play against us.
Swarm the defence, try to win corners, don't worry about playing possession football.
Mark Jonny Evans as no one else in our defence can pass. Win.

Head-to-head

  • Leicester can equal their longest league winning streak away to Aston Villa: three matches from 1936 to 1954.
  • Both Premier League meetings last season were won by the away team.
Aston Villa

  • They have lost 19 Premier League matches in 2021, a joint-high along with Southampton.
  • Fifteen of Villa's 19 league goals this season have come in the second half, including six from the 82nd minute onwards.
  • Ollie Watkins can become the first player to score in four consecutive Villa Premier League home games since Gareth Barry in November 2006.
  • Tyrone Mings will make his 100th Premier League appearance. His first and second games were both for Bournemouth at home to Leicester.
  • Steven Gerrard and Brendan Rodgers were opposition managers in two Old Firm derbies in 2018, which both ended in 1-0 home wins.
Leicester City

  • Leicester have only won three of their past 11 league fixtures.
  • Their solitary clean sheet in 20 top-flight matches came in a 1-0 home victory against Wolves on the opening weekend of this season.
  • The Foxes have conceded multiple goals in nine of their 14 Premier League games this season, a joint-league high alongside Newcastle.
  • Leicester have equalled a Premier League record by scoring and conceding in 14 consecutive away matches. Blackburn did the same in 2012.
  • Jamie Vardy has scored five goals in seven league appearances against Aston Villa. He needs one Premier League goal to surpass Ian Wright's record of 93 after his 30th birthday.
  • James Maddison has scored in three successive games in all competitions.
  • Brendan Rodgers has won all six Premier League away matches as a manager against Aston Villa.

Tomorrow's starting line up will be unchanged again (according to the guy that leaks it every week):

Schmeichel
Castagne, Evans, Soyuncu, Thomas,
Soumare, Ndidi,
Lookman, Maddison, Barnes,
Vardy.

They’ll murder us with that line up

Do they even watch the opposition before matches any more ?

After the past two games, how is anyone suggesting that Ndidi should start? He’s been a ****ing liability.

Because anyone who is sane and has actually watched us play for a good while knows that he’s still a far, far better player than any other person we have who can play in that position
Indeed. Who the **** else we playing? Hamza?

It's unlikely given the fixtures, but if all results go our way tomorrow, I think we'd be 6th?

Pretty crazy given how things have been going.

Villa will have done there homework on us and will play a 433 formation with the front 3 pressing our back line, which obviously we will fanny around trying to pass it out which will end up conceding corners and shots on goal.
Only way we will win this is to take the same approach and hope our forward line Is better than theirs because our defence certainly isn't. Vardy is the best in the league at closing the opposition down.

Schmeichel

Castagne Amartey Evans Thomas

KDH Ndidi Maddison

Albrighton Vardy Barnes

0-0 it is then.

Because the only alternatives are Choudhury and Soumare. Both of these players would be more effectrive blindfolded, with one leg amputated and the other riddled with gangrene. Ndidi has to play along with KDH. Anything else would be akin to throwing the game.

Yes, but aside that, why?
