Adam Black - club's all time record league appearance holder?

399 starts + 1 substitute appearance for the club but the only goal he ever scored came in the Charity Shield game against Liverpool - not a first-class fixture and therefore does not show in his record.

This was Jimmy Bloomfield's first game in charge and we had just gained promotion. We had just won promotion, defended superbly and dominated the midfield. However, we looked ineffective in the Liverpool penalty box.

Bloomfield's response was to go out and buy two quality attackers on the same day - Weller and Birchenall.
Shankly who could never accept Liverpool losing complained that Liverpool could not be expected to play Second Division type football.

The sad thing is that if you start to compile a 'best ever' Leicester team that we have had no stand out players since Muzzy Izzet left the club in 2004. For years now supporters have had to watch ordinary players play in a humdrum league where skill isnt the most sought after quality. I've already identified Rodrigues as the best right back - followed by Whitworth - then I'd place Willie Cunningham above most from the modern teams. Adam Black from near forgotten times has been mentioned - I'm told an all time Leicester great. Interestingly Adam Black continued to attend matches for the rest of his life. Can anyone imagine contemporary players being interested enough to follow the club after they have received their last BACs transfer?

Gary Lineker?

Muzzy and Walsh are often in attendance. Quite a few of the sixties lot still attend - Howard Riley etc.

Walsh and Muzzy both attend matches but if by contemporary you mean current players I don't think many of them even want to come to the KP on a matchday now. :icon_razz

Possibly because at some point or another our fans would have called them shit and told them to **** off?

There's no left back thread, so I'm going to add Ben Thatcher in here. Clearly not the best and a bit of a thug, but one of my favourite players at the time.

If you're seeking a right-back from that era, you should look no further than the slide-tackler extraordinaire, Mr Peter Rodrigues.[/QUOTE]

Rodrigues for me.
