Mahrez needs a break
Mahrez isn't one of our best players on current form.
It's the trendy thing to doMahrez is our most talented player. Our most creative player. Our second most important player (after Vardy). He was our best player at Arsenal, excellent against Brighton. As good as anyone at Man Utd. He was less effective in his last three matches but nowhere near the worst players we had on show.
Our current problem is that he's playing so deep that he's never going to be as effective going forward as we'd all want. His defensive work this season has been excellent, much better than I've ever seen from him. However, he's in his own half way too much and that's because our midfield is total shit and he's got no choice.
Mahrez has still had the same number of touches of the ball as Vardy and Albrighton combined this season. He's made more passes than Vardy and Albrighton combined, and has most assists this season. Why would anyone leave a player like that out?
But what has he actually done?Mahrez is our most talented player. Our most creative player. Our second most important player (after Vardy). This is perfect. Regardless of how many times you provide people with evidence that he simply isn't performing as badly as they imagine, the stock response is that he's been rubbish for ages and that's an end to it. I mean, it's not true but he's public enemy no.1 and the easiest target for everyone to blame.... well, along with the manager of course.Mahrez is our most talented player. Our most creative player. 'Very poor' results like losing to Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United whilst winning against Brighton and drawing away at a team playing some great football and who hadn't conceded a goal at home until we got there?I feel sorry for Iborra. Not suited to our 'style' - maybe not suited to our league. Ridiculously early to make that judgement I know - but some how can't see Iborra's stay with us being a great success under Shakey. I would take Alex's preferred side but start Iborra on the bench and play Slimani as the main striker, Nacho on the bench and Okazaki linking attack and midfield until he is knackered.
I sense that the club is trying to ride out a bit of a storm around very poor results and mishandling of the Silva 'transfer'....but this game and the next few may test their resolve. Probably got wrong manager; probably got obsolete playing formation; certainly got an inadequate level of quality in midfield. We really need a win at Bournemouth.

Jesus wept, this place has gone into ****ing meltdown. It's actually comedy gold at the minute reading the mindless negative horse shit being trotted out week in week out.
It's the end of September and some on here are calling this a 'must win' game. I have said that winning the league has ruined some of our fans which is clearly evident in this mental hospital of a thread but I think it may well have destroyed any concept of perspective at all for some.
It is a brilliant read though.
Albrighton has been far worse than Mahrez recently.
Suspect both will keep their place though, but I’d drop Albrighton for Gray.
Evidence? It’s mostly conjecture. The “best player at Arsenal” comment was a personal highlight. This is perfect.
