More or less being set up to lose in the majority of the tough games isn't how it's supposed to work. Of course a bottom of the table side (which is what we are these days -if we choose to be candid)is going to lose more than we win, but knowing you are going to lose isn't the right way.
We won the title 16 months ago. We can't expect to emulate that or even be top 6 or top 8, but this season is really poor stuff.
I don't think this is fantasy thinking. The actual fantasy is around situations like Mahrez. It's irrelevant that he is very talented and once played magnificently for us. The guy is now more or less a passenger. He doesn't want to play for us and couldn't have made that clearer.
Good post. Liverpool were there for the taking last weekend, they were so bad that we nearly muddled to a point playing completely the wrong system.
Henderson looked dreadful and sluggish but we had no one near him in the middle of the pitch.
Their wingbacks left acres of space behind them but only Vardy could make runs in behind with no support through the middle.
They basically have a team of midfielders but we started with an out of form Ndidi and the completely inadequate Andy King in the middle. The kept fullbacks get sucked infield, losing shape and leaving loads of space down the outside.
If we are going to accept that plenty of teams are bigger and better than us, then Shakespeare needs to make concessions with his tactics and adapt. He has shown no willingness to do this so far but for 10 or 20 minutes here and there. I'm not saying he should go or he's doomed to failure, I'm just not sure why we've plumped for someone who doesn't know how to do the job yet when the stakes are so high (relatively speaking of course).
