It's little to do with the team selection. You can play this formation and be successful. You can even have two attack minded full backs in this formation and do well.

However, what you cannot do is give licence to both full backs and both central defenders to leave the defence at will and be totally disconnected from each other. And also not instruct the two holding midfielders to fill in for anyone that does step out.

We could have the French national back six being instructed to play this way and Bournemouth would be embarrassing them.
