The reality is that we now need something akin to the 'Great Escape' of 2 seasons back to get us out of this shit storm we're seriously entrenched in. NP took the shackles off when we had no other option....however, I'm not sure how/what this team/CR are going to do to replicate? Getting our defence to pass rather than hoof might be a good starting point though

Re last night - we had 3/4 'passengers' on the field in the last 20 mins and you could sense what was coming, however cruel it actually came. We have the stench of a side who can't see where the next goal is coming from or, more worryingly, how to address this malaise we've been in for some time now.

Giving the ball away, particularly out of defence, is something we really have to sort out. We put ourselves under so much pressure doing it. Burnley had so much possession because we kept giving them the ball.

It happened so often; headed ball out from the back, falls into space, Burnley shirt first to it - and repeat.

Or...pass from center back to center back. To the wing. Back to schemical. Lumped forward.

The stat of 26 shots seems to back up my thoughts that the midfield is non existent.

It was highlighted against Soton how much spece their midfielders had to pop shots off unattended from the edge of the box but last night took the biscuit.

I think Joey Barton must have had about 4 efforts from the edge of the area in 10 minutes, not once was he closed down.

It's slack and it's costing us. Of course the defenders just lumping the ball straight back to them to do it again also doesn't help.

It all comes back to my earlier question.....What the ****ity is our approach when we have the ball, what is the actual plan?

Agree with all of this except for the Schmeichel part. Maybe Claudio needs to be sacrificed, but it's the players who should hang their heads in shame

I don't understand that. Sacrificing the manager will not change the attitude of the players if anything it will show them that they have the power and do what they want.

Claudio needs to drop players and the club should be fining some of them - hi leo!

One thing that really stood out tonight I thought (on top of everything else that's already been mentioned)... Burnley looked sharper and fitter than us. By a mile. Actually, most teams have.

When Ranieri came in last year, he didn't change the training or fitness programmes (from what we were told anyway) and the one thing Pearson's setup did very, very well was keeping the players extremely fit. Has Ranieri introduced his own systems now? There's a hugely noticeable difference in our sharpness and finess levels.

Not defending the players or looking for excuses and reasons at all by the way. Just something that's really noticeable.

They couldn't be bothered to get themselves back into season fitness as they were partying too much and now they can't be bothered to make much effort because they're "champions of England"

For some weird and wonderful reason, my bogey man is Drinkwater. I'd drop him Sunday against his alma mater. Industrious and combative, he is, and whilst he's under performing he's certainly not alone in that. So why would I drop him? Well, there's something about his demeanour, his body language on the pitch, that makes me feel that he's not an 'all for one' team player. His expressions seem to say 'must I do everything, you guys are useless'. I get the feeling he's disruptive, sulks and wants things his way - to the point where he can't play anywhere other than where he wants to*. Nah, not having that. Bench him.

* Plus, if that is his attitude, it makes it difficult for CR to reshape the team. DD may be a disruptive influence I feel. Drop him and work on getting a more functional midfield.

We do have a midfield problem but it stems from having 2 wide men in midfield and in particular Mahrez who doesn't defend. this is exacerbated by the front men not closing in the gaps.

Guess who I'd drop first?

Indeed. 2 of our 4 man midfield are (or are also) wingers. It leaves 2 to do the actual midfield graft. And they tend to drop back into defensive duties. Result? We have no midfield to speak of. That's why we have no effective support for the forwards, why we're constantly hoofing it for Vardy to not chase, and most importantly why every damned ball out of defence is falling to an opposition player.

Imo it's nothing to do with Mahrez. He's been away for a while and we have been useless in closing down on the edge of the box in all of those games.

If we get to the point of saying we must play more defensive wingers to stop them scoring then we will never score ourselves...........mmmmmm

Interesting body language from the players last night after the match. Schmeichel and Albrighton straight over to clap the fans. Wes came over too but was just standing staring at the fans for a long time, hands on hips looking baffled. Fuchs and Vardy gave a little clap to the fans all while arguing and were arguing all the way off the pitch.

Debating which of them is the most shit no doubt.

There is no point having 2 wingers when they don't go forward enough and we get overrun in the middle of the park because they're jogging out wide in case a FB joins in.

Our defenders need to press further up the pitch and get out from the back when they make their clearances and our "okazaki" has to help with the cleared balls and not just fall to the floor looking for a free kick.

That could be a never ending debate. Sadly I'm sure they both think they are brilliant.

Wow, I can't believe this is happening. After Man City I expected us to turn a corner. We have been shit since.

Two biggest games in our history round the corner and I am just glum.

What sort of response and formation can we expect on Sat?
