Buying domain names

Any good sellers you can recommend?

Also, when you buy them, what happens next? Do you get certificates of ownership or anything?

Also, say I have made an ooblez host account, do I just need to put my domain name in there somewhere for it to all work fine and dandy?

Any steps, tips, advice and/or instructions would be brilliant.

I recommend 123-reg, I've been using them for years and bought hundreds of domains from them. Their admin system is the best I've used and their prices are good.

If you buy a UK domain you'll get a certificate, but not for non UK domains.

You'll need to point the domain to the IP address for the hosting, you can do this in the 123-reg admin system.

Is it pretty straight forward then webbo? I think I registered with 123 but never actually bought a domain name.

There's no specific procedure for selling them, although for UK domains you have to fill in a form to do the transfer. You can sell them on ebay or specialist domain resale sites such as Sedo. I've never sold one myself, although I have swapped one for a signed CD
I don't buy domains to resell them, I buy them because I have an idea for a website, usually I then do nothing about it for a couple of years :icon_roll

I have a domain name now but when i go on it www.growlersfc.co.uk it just goes to a 123 page. how long does it take to go to my page?

also, i have an ooblez account and have knocked up a little under construction page there.

how exactly do i like the whole lot up?
which part of the admin system in 123 do i use and where do I find the IP address for the hosting?

You need to get the nameservers or A-record IP's from your hosting company, and then change one of these in the 123-control panel.

I normally change namesevers, Jeff changes A-records, theres pro's and con's to each, none of which will really affect you.

The data transfer limit of 100MB a month means it's not going to be much use for a lot of sites, but as long as Joe_ keeps the site mainly text he should be OK.

That's a scam - you register and then it's not free. Can you find the free hosting? I don't believe it's there webbo.

Look harder.

Log in then towards the bottom of the page there's a link for the free hosting. Then they'll try to sell you hosting, but again there's a small link at the bottom of the page for free hosting. Eventially you'll get it.
