I have to say I have been pretty digusted at a particular level in the game, it's quite a vivid scene and you can see why people will have a problem with glorifying terrorism like that... I won't mention exactly what it is as that would spoil the game for those of you that haven't got there yet but you'll know the scene when you get to it.

I read about that, our very own Keith Vaz has been slagging it off wherever possible. It does sound pretty shocking from what I've heard, perhaps because of the realism of it. Games like Grand Theft Auto never shocked me because of the fact it was so patently unrealistic, but this level in COD? Uncomfortably realistic...

Surely it's no different to films or Tv shows that do the same?

I agree - absolutely horrible part of the game put in for the sake of it. What kind of example it sets to under-18s who get hold of the game is beyond me. Should definitely have been a cut-scene, if in the game at all.

The rest of the game is brilliant though :icon_lol:

That's exactly what I was thinking.
TV shows like 24 are constantly 'glorifying terrorism'. I haven't heard Keith Vaz, or any other ****wit like him, getting on the soapbox decrying 24.

It's the worst thing I've seen regarding gloryfing terrorism. I'd say it's pretty saddistic the way it comes across. The level in question sets a really dark mood with the music etc and you were forced to walk slowly massacreing innocent civilians in some sort of gangland style mass murder. Pretty vivid images of people dying.

Don't get me wrong, you look at it and the realism smacks you in the face but you can certainly see why people have a problem with this game and I think it is largely down to this particular mission.

I just don't think it was a very clever idea to include this in a game Activision knows people of all ages are going to be clambering over.

On lighter note, I haven't tried the multiplayer on this yet but the campaign mode is not half as good as Call Of Duty 4. The best levels are easily the snow levels where there is more of an emphasis on stealth than action, I think these were the levels that really stood out in COD4 too. I'll probably check out the online after I've fully completed the campaign and spec-ops stuff but if COD4 was anything to go by I can't see this replacing Halo 3 as my favourite online multiplayer game.

From what Im reading in here the game is not glorifying terrorism at all, in fact I think it's safe to say it's put at least 4 of you off commiting and act of terrorism, which is always a massive bonus.

But we're all level-headed adults (a few of us anyway!), and it's more the fact that it seems very gratuitous.

And I wasn't being entirely serious, although Im sure you knew that really.

It's a game. For over 18's. Grow up.

You grow up! :icon_wink

Seriously though, have you seen it - it's pretty graphic and completely gratuitous, and we all know that a lot of under-18s will be playing it. I'm not going to go out and join a protest, but I do think that it isn't very tasteful.

That's an odd thing to say. We all know that there will be plenty of under 18s playing it. And there's ample evidence to show that a very few people are affected by these games and have difficulty in distinguishing between fantasy and reality.

But they shouldn't be playing it. If they do then the responsibility lies with the parents not the game makers. It's no different to some of the films on the market. To me it just seems like people are offloading responsibility if something happens.

True, but realistically how many parents know what the levels involve on the game that their 14 year old son has borrowed off a mate. I think an 18-rating means hardly anything these days, but I guess that is more a comment on society.

And it is more the fact that the scene doesn't really belong in the game; it's one thing shooting other soldiers in a typical first person shooter and completely another mowing down civilians. If you go and see Saw at the cinema you know what you are getting, but if you take a scene from Saw and put it into a James Bond film or similar, it's another matter.

It depends on your point of view, if hardcore porn suddenly popped up in James Bond I wouldn't complain! :icon_lol:

It's an 18 rated game approved by the classifying board. They can't account for parents buying it for their kids. In much the same way they can't account for parents buying pornography for them.
