like a "david beckham testimonial", just have a special match then i say, england v scotland. but not cappellos first match in charge, when all eyes will be on him.

That's a little OTT, but I see your point.

If he hadn't kicked that feckin' Argie liked the big spoilt girl that he is then he would have 100 caps by now

Seems strange he didnt give Beckham the chance to get his 100th cap? If he doesnt include him for a friendly not much chance in competitive matches!

Sentiment has no place in professional football. Beckham isn't the future so why bother with him now:102:

Well done Fabio.

In that case get rid of Owen, Heskey and Crouch, none of them currently on form or scoring regularly. No room for sentiment! :icon_roll

Capello could have given him his 100th cap told him he wont be included in the competitive matches and to make his goodbyes now.

We now have to put up with this crap everytime Capello names his squad until Beckham either retires or gets the cap!

Partly agree.

But there is still room in our game for sentiment. David Beckham gives 100% for his country, he will play for his country until his dying day if he could.

Out of the current bunch of ungrateful and unmotivated players, Beckham is the one stands out as the player who plays with passion and pride in his nation. This is highlighted in no finer example than his last minute goal against Greece. Beckham was full of passion a euphoria, I thought he was going to explode. Did you see the other fcukers?, they just pottered over to him and patted him on the back FFS!!!

He has more passion and pride for his country in his little finger than the rest of the cnuts have in put together.

IMO, the FA should intervene and pay him this tribute and give him a second half appearance in a meaningless game.

I agree Melts without that effort we may not have qualified for the World Cup. As for his sending off against the Argies, Kim Nielsen is a show pony. I hope Beckham does get his 100th cap as a tribute and as a means of stopping discussion about whether he should get that 100th cap. :icon_wink

I seem to remember Mclaren swining his todger around dropping Beckham in his first squad selection, and we all know how that went. :bang:

Like him or loathe him he is a class act and deserves his place in this friendly squad, even if its just for the friendly.

How much money the F.A have earnt from his name on the back of their shirts and merchandise must be phenominal.

All in all, a shody way to treat an English footballing ledgend.

On reflection, that is probably a good reason to have included him this time.

Or, stop the speculation and tell him now his international days are over :icon_razz

In my opinion, it is better for Beckham not to be playing. It means that Capello still feels he is a viable option for the England team.

It also means that Beckham has not been picked for footballing reasons (i.e he is not playing) rather than being picked then discarded for sentimental reasons.

I think this is being blown up out of all proportion.

Oh yes, what better way is there to signal to the world that a player is in the Manager's future plans than to not pick him.

It's a clear indication that Beckham will be first on the team sheet in future.

I think Beckham needs to get back to playing in the premiership if he seriously wants to be considered for England

I'd doubt he would give up an absolute fortune he earns at the Galaxy for the sake of 1 or 2 more caps.
Imo this is all propaganda stuff anyway. FC needs to look and show his no nonsense style right from the off. If he plays Beckham it signals weakness in his management. I wouldnt be surprised if Beckham still gets his 100th cap but only after FC has sent his message out.

I think he will definately get it and then if he remains in America that will be it.

Doing that really worked well for McLaren didn't it?

FC knows exactly what Beckham can do, but he's not played a game for months, so lack of match fitness is probably what's ruled him out. He asked Wenger about Beckham's fitness before selecting the squad, he wouldn't have done that if he'd ruled him out completely.

Yet if he was picked in a meaningless friendly when he hasn't played for 3 months, that is saying thanks, here is 100 caps, now bye...

Viable reason for not picking him now. He just hasn't played competitive football for 3 months. Capello said he would look at it again when he is playing. This is not another McClown situation here where Capello is a posturing idiot.

Always referring to that really hacks me off, he missed 9 freekicks in that match and scores one and he's a god, if he'd let someone else take one of the kicks that he missed we may have won rather than scrape a draw. Honestly don't see the need to give anyone extra caps for the hell of it, if he's the fittest and best player available for his position play him if not don't.
