... takes place tomorrow (around 9-30) with the first round games being the first proper matches of the new season (w/c August 13th). All of the L1, L2 and Championship clubs go into the draw (except for Blackburn + Bolton).

What's this all about then?

EDIT: Ignore me, didn't realise they'd changed the name of the League Cup.

Well, lots of teams go into the hat, they are drawn out and they play each other in a game of association football, the winners are then redrawn in susequent rounds until there are only two teams left. The ultimate winner is decided by means of a final game of football played at the the glorious Wembley Stadium on Sunday teh 24th of February 2013, with the wining team being rewarded by the presentation of a trophy ... the aforementioned Capital One Cup.

EDIT: Don't ignore me cos I don't like being ignored.

I reckon that we will be playing one of:

AFC Wimbledon, Aldershot Town, Barnet, Bristol Rovers, Cheltenham Town, Crawley Town, Dagenham & Redbridge, Exeter City, Gillingham, Leyton Orient, Northampton Town, Oxford United, Plymouth Argyle, Shrewsbury Town, Southend United, Swindon Town, Torquay United, Walsall, Wycombe Wanderers

In fact I'm certain that we will be playing one of:

AFC Wimbledon, Aldershot Town, Barnet, Bristol Rovers, Cheltenham Town, Crawley Town, Dagenham & Redbridge, Exeter City, Gillingham, Leyton Orient, Northampton Town, Oxford United, Plymouth Argyle, Shrewsbury Town, Southend United, Swindon Town, Torquay United, Walsall, Wycombe Wanderers

... because they are the unseeded teams in the southern half of the draw.

The other Southern Seeds are:

Birmingham City, Cardiff City, Brighton & Hove Albion, Watford, Ipswich Town, Millwall, Crystal Palace, Peterborough United, Bristol City, Portsmouth, Coventry City, Charlton Athletic, Milton Keynes Dons, Stevenage, Brentford, Colchester United, AFC Bournemouth, Yeovil Town

Northern Seeds: Carlisle United, Tranmere Rovers, Notts County, Huddersfield Town, Sheffield Wednesday, Sheffield United, Blackpool, Burnley, Leeds United, Middlesbrough, Hull City, Doncaster Rovers, Nottingham Forest, Barnsley, Derby County, Wolverhampton Wanderers

Northern Non-Seeds: Accrington Stanley, Bradford City, Burton Albion, Bury, Chesterfield, Crewe Alexandra, Fleetwood Town, Morecambe, Oldham Athletic, Port Vale, Preston North End, Rochdale, Rotherham United, Scunthorpe United, Shrewsbury Town, York City

It's anticipated that the League will allow games to be played on Saturday 11th too.

Is there a fixture list for this cup anywhere? Round three to be played w/c Sep 24 Sep and the Final Feb 24th. Any info on the rounds between?

When was the last time we were in the southern side of the draw?

Why not those 2?

1999/2000 when we played Crystal Palace in a two-legged Second Round.

Why not those 2?

The 7 teams who are appearing in Europe do not join in until the 3rd round, at which stage there are 32 clubs competing. That requires there to be 25 matches, and therefore 50 teams, in the second round.

The other 13 Premier League teams do not join the competition until the second round. This leaves 37 places to be filled by Football League clubs.

If all 72 Football League clubs played in the first round, there would be 36 winners - one too few to fill the places in the second round. A couple of years ago, two non-league teams were invited to take part to make up the numbers but that was not deemed to have been a success so this season it has been decided to give a bye to two Football League clubs. Blackburn and Bolton last season were the highest placed of this season's FL clubs and have been awarded those byes.

Cheers, makes sense I suppose.

You cause a ruck or something? :102:

Nothing that exciting. A good friend of mine is a fan, her dad used to be on the Board there. I have seen CTFC 5 times, and never seen them score, let alone draw a game. Apparently my presence is a jinx, although the first two times were during our L1 season, and therefore I wanted CTFC to lose!

My stats are:

Watched: 5
Wins: 0
Draws: 0
Losses: 5
GF: 0
GA: 17

i've not checked this out but on the moan in Alan Young said that only twice before have we been involved in the league cup before the season started, and on both occasions we were promoted.

I've had a quick look and the only one I can find is in 1979. We were knocked out of the league cup in the first round 5-1 on aggregate by Rotherham. Both legs were played before the season started. We were promoted as champions.
