I thought i would wait to see how this thread developed before i had my say. Having read this thread and many of the responses in it , i am stunned if not rather shocked at some of the liberal , lame and slightly bazaar comments.

For many a long year , football supporters across the world have revelled in the sport of banter, piss-taking and the belittlement of opposing fans. Its something that has happened on the terraces since time began. In all the years that i supported leicester both home and away and travelled to other grounds to watch games ,chants , banter and mickey-takes have been the norm . Indeed it adds to the very atmosphere in grounds.

Is it political correctness that is rearing ts ugly head. Is it liberal brainwashing in schools or is it a new ethical bandwagon thats being jumped on, i dont know, but this is the first time i have read of so much detest towards what i can only describe as ''normal football ground behaviour''

Yes it is good to see that racist chants have been made illegal in our grounds,
it is also good to to see smoking frowned upon. And to see violence dealt with severly, but banter........ Its another dig at peoples freedom of speech.
So, you perhaps dont like the chavs in L1. Or you are morally righteous. Maybe its P.M.T. but the young lads in L1 are doing their best to support their club in the only way they know how. Week in week out they are there singing their little hearts out trying to do what they think is right thing.
Maybe we should commend them for getting off their bums and having a go.
Maybe we should move the rest of the kop along the east stand where there may be a few adults who can show them another way to generate passion,
but ban them, chastise them, arrest them, throw them out, id rather have passionate lads with no brains supporting the club than whingers moaners and hypocrites.. ask yourselves the question ''have you ever took the piss out of anyone'' or ''had a laugh at someone elses expence''

agree with johnb wholeheartedly on this, are you trying to tell me no one on here has sang the song about the munich air crash in there time or many other songs that do the rounds about certain areas of the country, certain unfortunate inccidents that have happened to clubs, etc should we all be banned aswell? its just as john said BANTER!and without it the terraces would be a very boring place,we were all appalled at the terrorists bombings but its a typical british response to use that the way we did on sat i.e we have a laugh about it and before any of you get on your high horses about it not being the slightest bit funny then think how many of you got text message jokes about the tsunami after it happened? or about lady diana,s death or about the 9/11 disaster?? its simply the british way of life we make light of things like this

so if your brother/sister were killed due to the bombings you would consider it light hearted banter? :102:

The club were keen to keep it open if at all possible as they recognise it forms part of any atmosphere in the ground. They were looking at measures though to remove the known supporters who cause trouble there. I would think this will bypass any partial action though and they will close it at was discusssed before the season started.

Well if idiotic, heartless chanting is the only atmosphere we can create then I don't mind saying I'd rather sit in silence.

the lack of wit is the only hilarious point in the mindless wanker's chants. there are levels of decency in football banter and i think "had yer ma" is just on the right side of the limit. we should find out who these so called fans are, kit them up in west ham or chelsea shirts and send them to bermondsey with a half brick between five of them on a home game, let them prove they are 'the kids' and not just mouth.

Interesting debate this.

55 people died in the London bombings statistically I would have thought its very unlikely that anyone in the QPR crowd were effected by it seeing as 7 millionish people live in London and more travel in every day.

Where as asking a fat bloke if he's ever seen his dick is unquestionably offensive and I would have thought its fairly likely that repeated abuse for being fat over a number of years has a signifcant effect on someone's self esteem and could cause them to be fairly upset about comments in public. Equally am sure Becks was none to pleased to hear the opinions of several crowds that Posh takes it up the bum.

Two of the above are generally accepted as being "football humour" the other seems to have been greeted with outrage by most.

Its now a few months since the bombings and as time passes undoubtedly jokes and references to it will become more socially acceptable. At what point in time does it become fair game for footie fans to use? The lads (or lasses) who chanted this either have;

a) a different sense of humour or morality to other people

or more likely

b) trying to wind up the QPR fans as much as possible

either way I am surprised at the amount of surprise that has been generated by this song. Football fans are people and sections of them will express all the things that people experience joy, hate, passion, humour. If they didn't I probably wouldn't go.

buts thats what im saying! we all are appalled by the bombings and we feel sympathy for those killed related to those killed, but it wont stop people using the situation to barrack other fans,if all banter that could cause offence to someone was banned then we wouldnt have any chants on the terraces! if i had lost anybody in the bombings then no i cetainly wouldnt feel like joining in the chants but i would be man enough and adult enough to realise that there not personally aimed at either me or anybody else that was affected but meerly banter and thats all.

i take your point and its a fair point well made but i think it all boils down to the definition of the word banter

1. scousers live in slums nick videos and dont have a job
2. grimsby fans smell of fish
3. forest fans are heavily into self abuse
4. derby fans are fond of sheep
5. qpr fans are mass murderers who killed my sister :102:

spot the odd one out :102:

What amazes me more than anything is the sheer stupidity of the people doing the chanting.

Surely they'd hear about the chanting at Hull and knew that those people had been banned as a result - there was certainly enough publicity about it.

Did they think no one would notice what they were chanting?
Did they think they would be allowed to get away with stuff that fans of other clubs got banned for?

It's Chav mentality Webbo, I think the case is that if they get banned they get a free big mac or something.

i thought there was a repeat of it saturday against brighton but it was "town full of bummers" ;)
