Zhi never stopped moving, looking for space and creating gaps for others. He is exactly what we are looking for in our midfield.

Have to agree with you Muttley, we produced a promising performance cosidering the injuries and make up of our midfield. Well done lads and nice to see Clem look a bit more like the player he actually is.

It's also good to see Fryatt motivated. And for all the Hume doom and gloomsters (with whume I don't agree), the two have a good understanding.

Is anyone else surprised at the fact that although we have a massive squad - OK, including a lot of waste material - there's so much playing-out-of-position going on? Hume isn't a natural wide-left player, N'Gotti isn't a midfielder, nor is Chambers, or Kenton, allegedly. Hayes was played today on the right - why?

I'd grudgingly agree, it seems to work, mostly.

And, mystery number 75,022 - why does a gifted and pacey player like Sheehan just fall asleep halfway through a game? His automatic pilot is set on Attention Deficit. I'd like to see his score on a Stroop test.

Thought it was a horrible game. Lots of niggling and dirty fouls from both sets of players. Wasn't impressed by Charlton at all, even though they had a few players missing.

We never got to grips with the enforced changes to our formation.

Only players worthy of positive mentions would be Stearman, Kisnorbo and Fryatt. None were faultless but gave total commitment and put themselves about in the scrap.

Sheehan was a disaster. Unsure what planet he was on today. Fulop had the look of someone who had no idea where he'd be next week. Kenton and Hume were out of position and very poor. John might as well have not bothered starting.

Draw was a fair result. Neither team did enough really.

That ends a pitiful 2007 at the Walkers where a City fan attending had only a 17% chance of seeing us win and only a 17% chance of seeing us score more than once in the game:

Pld W D L F A P
23 4 9 10 24 28 21

Let's us hope for a little more in 2008.

I think all the above is mostly accurate - but it only tells one side of the story.

Firstly, the extremely windy conditions largely spoiled any chance of a decent football match anyway.

Overall, players like Collins John apart - who looked completely uninterested prior to going off for another no doubt welcome injury meaning he can make even less effort - I thought the team overall made a lot of effort.

Their difficiencies in terms of quality and any balance are so obvious that they hardly need any further discussion. But at least Holloway has got them trying.

If anyone was in doubt about how dire standards are in this league then the Walkers was the place to be yesterday. Charlton - a top 6 side - just had the odd bit of better quality and pace to set them apart from us. On the otherhand there is nothing to distinquish us from the other bottom teams except that Milan is supposed to have the wherewithall to strengthen the squad - and he will need to do a bit of that to avoid 2008 being just another repeat of 2007.

Cant understand what we were doing defensively in the final moments of the game allowing players to set themselves up for a overhead kick in the six yard box.

But the game as a whole shows just how little difference there is between teams in this Division, a side only needs a run of six or seven games unbeaten and you can be competing for a top six place.

I just had the impression that Charlton were reasonably content with a draw and then when we scored were able to turn up the gas and make us defend deeper and deeper. I don't think we chose to defend deep.

The goal was a straightforward goalkeeping error - Fulop badly misjudged the situation - for the second time in the game. However, I don't blame him; he looks a decent keeper and the swirling wind conditions made the whole afternoon a bit difficult for him - not that that was the reason for the two bad individual errors.

Unfortunately I draw the alternative conclusion from the " little difference between the teams" issue. We would now have to take a nigh impossible 50 points from the remaining fixtures to be competing for a top six place. This is simply not going to happen. I think there isn't much difference either between us and the bottom six - and a few more injuries, suspensions because of accumulated yellow cards and continuing poorish luck could still see us struggle to get to 50 or 52 points and safety.

Reasonable performance & unlucky not to get the result. Thier goal goal was just a calamity of mistakes which started with Clemence giving away a stupid free kick from our own corner and then followed up by giving away another inside our own half which resulted with Fulops misjudgement and a goal to them. All we had to do was hang on to the ball from the corner and they would not have seen our goal. Fryatt had a decent game again, but boy does he need a goal to boost his confidence even higher. Barring for his last minute free kick episodes thought Clemence showed an improvement, which is about time.

Fryatt needs pace, then he will get his goals! He should try what Andy Johnson is doing at Everton and do some sprint training, with that extra yard he would be onto everything! Get him booked in with someone at Loughborough Uni!

Why do people think that Hayes had a good game? I'm struggling to think of a single positive contribution

i thought he was easily the worst player on the park.....

a good point considering the opposition, but for ****s sake we did our bit to throw it away :( piss about with an attacking corner, clemence giving away a freekick when it wasn't needed, not marking a big fecker on the back stick when it was needed

fryatt/ollie etc. may all be excited by the last three games but i for one am as ****ing sick of watching these cnuts as i have been all season

So you don't believe the spin coming out of the Club then. :icon_lol: :icon_lol: :icon_lol:

Not entirely sure it was all his fault though. When he came on he played mainly on the right side but didn't really seem to know where he was supposed to be at that point. When he moved to the left later he was slightly improved.

Hayes is in the wrong division.

He is a genuine winger - but only good enough for League 2 or just possibly League 1 football.

You can't fault him for trying but he just doesn't have enough tricks to beat players. I can't imagine he is enjoying his football and he is just further evidence of Allen's poor judgement of players. Not good enough to get a regular spot in League 1 - how did he think Hayes would improve Leicester City? They always say " buy lower division players and that's where you will finish up" - and poor old Hayes is a classic example.

Just because "they" say it doesn't mean it's necessarily true.

Where did O'Neill buy Lennon, Elliott, Guppy and Savage from?
There are plenty of decent players at lower league clubs, if you know what to look for.

Hayes was signed for his potential, not to go straight into the team. He had a poor game yesterday - but spent most of the time in the wrong position. He has shown signs in previous games of being a good player. Wingers are rarely consistent, it'll take more than a handful of games to decide if he's going to be any good.
