A malaise hangs heavy over the club, reminiscent of the Claude Puel era's dying embers. A sense of defeat permeates and a feeling of inevitability that we simply won't compete. Perhaps judging Chelsea at their current peak is harsh, but against Nottingham Forest, Manchester United, and even more worryingly, Ipswich, Bournemouth, Southampton, and Palace, scraping by felt more like fortune than design.
While desperately wanting Steve Cooper to succeed, a confluence of factors has eroded my faith. Had the anticipated points deduction materialised, perhaps Cooper would have rallied the troops, forged a fighting spirit, and become the architect of our resurgence. It's also likely that recruitment, both players and staff, was hampered by planning for a scenario far rosier than merely eclipsing Derby County's Premier League record.
While ownership and leadership are easy targets, these are the same individuals who secured the coup of Enzo, a masterstroke in hindsight. I suspect they craved a different manager, but the potential punishments arguably hindered their ability to attract a top choice.
The question lingers: has Enzo's brilliance amplified my disappointment in Cooper, or is a once-capable coach simply not suited to this challenge? Yesterday's performance offered a stark answer. Cooper doesn't seem to have instilled belief in this group. Taking a swipe at the referee at the final whistle was a particularly poor display, especially considering our fortunate escape for N'Didi's tackle.
My hope is that the same decisive leadership that brought Enzo to the club is now pulling out all the stops to secure Graham Potter. In my opinion, Potter's talent surpasses much of the public perception. Partnered with the brilliant Billy Reid (

My fear is inertia. That will be relegation into an EFL that cannot wait to dish out the fines and a very real decline awaits which has very serious ramifications indeed. We need to act now.
