With the embargo, no American fans were legally able to attend the game in Havana. Five American fans did go to the game, and obviously their faces had to be covered...

There could be some questions at the US border with regards to where they went, and the penalty for travel to Cuba can be quite high for a US citizen - up to 10 years in jail and a $250,000 fine. Apparently there are US agents in Cuba who try to keep tabs on any American who might be in the country or trying to travel there.

Did they manage to get a photograph of the other one?

That would be the Office of Cuban affairs, part of the state department.

Fair play to them lads, the embargos seems abit of a nonsense to me.

If no Americans are allowed to visit Cuba, what were the team doing there? I am assuming that the players are American?

No there won't. They will just fly to Mexico or Canada and drive back in to the States from there. It's actually pretty common. I know of someone who flew to Cuba from Mexico and as they had a US passport the officials at the airport in Havana did not stamp the passport so there would be no record of the trip. The Cuban authorities may have their socialist principles but they also are in dire need of the dollar so they are not going to turn away any tourism.

When we were in Mexico we met a number of Americans who were on their way to Cuba for a few days. It's a well -organised business which leaves no audit trail. Any Credit card transactions while in Cuba will go through Mexican banks appearing as if conducted in mexico.

When we were in Cuba the immigration officials were surprised - and obviously delighted - when we insisted on having our passports stamped.

I've always wanted to go to Cuba - how was it OldGit, would you recommend it? I would like to go now before Fidel finally kicks the bucket and it becomes just another 'holiday island'.

We thoroughly enjoyed it, though it was about 10 years ago. Beautiful place, people are really friendly and quite cultured. The main resort are (Varadero) is pretty much like a European resort, but get out and about and it's another world. Beautiful old colonial towns hardly touched, wild countryside, hardly any traffic. And cheap. We have been discussing going back again before the Miami mafia get their hands on it.
