It took a hell of a long time for the board (and some posters here - do you recall anything HF?) to realise that Levein was one of the very worst managers that we have had the misfortune to suffer. I've see them all - back to Norman Bullock - and, in fact, I would rate Levein as possibly THE worst. Even Mclintock had extenuating circumstances in terms of inheriting a worn out squad and he was operating in the top tier. Even the blabber from Bryan Hamilton and Gordon Milne's awful transfer dealings were not as bad as the totally dead hand of Levein. I would even rate the dreaded Bassett as a better manager.

What a pity that most of the season has been wasted by bad judgement in sticking with Levein.

I am sorry but I cannot agree with you on that one. Frank fecking McClintock was just pure dross. He may have "inherited" an aging squad, but he took us from being a decent side to whipping boys in less than 1 season. He had money to spend and spent it on buying in all his own mates!!!
CL was not the best manager we have had, he was a very bad manager, but to say he was worse than that twat is beyond belief. Under McClintock we were giving goals away in the warm ups FFS...

Except, of course, McClintock was trying to manage the club when it was in the top tier - whereas CL wasn't. So I'm not sure that it's easy to make a comparison.

I think there was a serious chance that had CL gone on for a few more weeks that he would have taken the club down to the third tier for the first time - if we had the time to track his points return, I think we would find that the returns were getting worse and worse. On that basis, i think it is reasonable for me to suggest that he is a fair candidate for worst ever manager.

That said, I acknowledge, that my slightly more benign attitude towards McClintock may be partly influenced by my memory of him as a Leicester player - when he was absolutely brilliant, IMO one of the best - if not the best - 'half-backs' (mid field ) player ever to play for the club.

:067: McClintock I think is the worst I can remember the dross that he brought in were truly awfull. Most of them were no better than old 3rd/4th division standard. Some of the youngsters that came through were his only saving grace.
No wonder he never managed again whereas CL will someday, probably in Scotland.

As I recall - the main problem wasn't that the players were 3rd/4th division standard - it was simply that they were good players who were far too old e.g. George Armstrong; Dave Webb and Geoff Salmons. Also he was desparately in need of a striker and threw a lot of money at Roger Davies - from Bruges I thinkl - who was, a total disaster.

cant argue kelly has proved a shrewd appointmentm regarding levein I think he had an eye for players but for whatever reason it didnt work out here. I think it was motivational skills and unable to pick a consistent team that let him down.
