Presumably only since it stopped putting then in Alphabetical order?

Maybe its duration of time logged in?

I changed it because when it has to sort it alphabetically it adds slightly to the server load and page loading time, and I didn't think having them in order was that important.

Dunno. In the admin system it's described as 'random', but it's probably based on the order something appears in the database.
