PAOLO Di Canio believes Swindon have been provided with an easier passage to the fifth round of the FA Cup after Leicester City beat Nottingham Forest 4-0 in their third-round replay last night.
The Foxes are higher in the Championship standings than Forest, who sit just inside the relegation zone having managed to collect just seven wins from 26 games all season.
However, Di Canio feared that a desire for some welcome reprieve from their league woes would make Forest the more dangerous of the two sides, and the Town boss fancies his team’s chances against inconsistent Leicester.
“Watching Leicester play, they have a group of experienced players and maybe more quality than Nottingham Forest,†he said.
“However, when I watched them three weeks ago they did not really impress me, because they seem to have lots of old players who possibly think they are good but don’t have the right discipline.
“Obviously they are still a strong side because they are two leagues above and they are physically strong, but they do not have our organisation.â€
The Swindon players will be confident of beating anyone at the moment having already seen off sides in every division this season, while they have tasted defeat just once in their last 21 games.
Two wonder goals from in-form winger Matt Ritchie sealed a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Rotherham last time out, and Di Canio has backed his side’s brand of football to cause problems for any team – no matter the league they play in.
“We will go there to win the game,†he added. “I say this because I believe we can beat any team if we play like we did against Rotherham – work hard, pass the ball and play football.
“What will be even better for us is that sometimes at this level the other team make it difficult for us to play football but two leagues above they play on the ground and pass and move.
“We can go through and beat them, no problem.â€
Goalkeeper Wes Foderingham believes the changes in management, coupled with the volume of players that have come and gone at Leicester, could work in Swindon’s favour.
“They have been a bit hot and cold so far this season,†he said.
“They have been fantastic when they are on top form, but they still look like they haven’t quite gelled together yet.
“There has been a lot of money thrown at the side and a lot of movement in and out of the squad.
“That could play a part against them, we have done really well this season and I think we can take advantage of that.â€
