I have a problem with my Digibox. It keeps on freezing every now and again for just a couple of seconds. Sometimes you can go 20 minutes with a perfect picture and then it can keep freezing every couple of seconds for 30+ minutes.

It has been happening for the last couple of days. I have turned the machine off, changed the scart cable, re-installed the channel and it is still doing it. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

I did find this earlier on, but thanks for helping.

From looking the only advice I could see was to check the signal quality, which I have done and althought it is not full, it is still "very good" according to the box.

Seems like it might just be a software problem which means I have one more present I want for Christmas

Sadly not much help. :icon_conf :icon_wink

We have had this problem ,the only way to fix it was to buy a new box sadly.

How long you had it? Can't be that long. I would be telling your supplier to get it sorted.

I have had mine for just over a year. Unsurprsingly the warranty runs out after.... 1 year. :icon_roll

Ignore the warranty. Your argument is that a recorder should last longer than a year and people have been successful with this argument. You're not going to get all your money back because you've had a year's use but if they can't get it fixed, you should be looking for half your money back or the same amount off a new one.

It was difficult enough for me to get them to change a digital photo frame a day after I had bought it, never mind trying to get them to give me a refund on a recorder that is a year old.:icon_lol:

What was wrong with the photo frame?

Didnt have a USB port, took it back to ask for a different one of similar value that had a USB port and they said they couldnt accpe it because we might have used it. Managed to get in changed in the end but they sure made it difficult

In the case of the picture frame, you made a wrong choice - and they agreed to swap it when they didn't have to. They did exchange it and that ism to their credit.

In the case of the recorder they have sold you something that hasn't worked for as long as it reasonably could have been expected to. In this case you should expect them to do something about it. Have a look at this example on guardian.co.uk It makes it very clear that action can be taken in circumstances such as yours.

Is there any way of updating the firmware?

Yes there is and I am just about to go and buy the necessary cable.

Another weird quirk to the box is that it works perfectly fine up until 4pm and then starts to freeze after that for the rest of the night!:icon_conf

Last night it went completely black and wouldnt work at all and then this morning it is working fine again.

This may be a strange question but are their any trees or similar near to the aerial? My grandad had a similar problem and called sky out and basically everynow and again his dish would be caught by a gust of wind and would be blown slightly so that the tree blocked the signal until the wind subsided. He had the dish moved a foot over and it hasn't come back since. I don't know if this is relevant for digiboxes, but maybe the aerial is doing something similar?

Doesnt it do an over the air firmware update?

Nope, I live in flats and have checked with neighbours to see if they have been problems, which they haven't.

As I said if its broken I dont mind buying a new one, its just the fact that it works perfectly fine all morning and starts to freeze about 4ish? Surely this cant be a coincedence?

If it has been working before perfectly then why on earth would he want to update the firmware, doubt there has been any major digibox updates.

Checked the aerial? Rang up?
