If it has been working before perfectly then why on earth would he want to update the firmware, doubt there has been any major digibox updates.

• Because firmware can get corrupted
• Because firmware gets updated
• Because it's the first thing that any engineer will do if called out

Actually yes it does, so I didnt need to the cable.

Did it work? Could it be overheating? ie a broken fan??

• Yes but even if a newer firmware has been released and the Digi would have been working fine before, then there still wouldnt be any need to update it.
