Pfft, who cares what the others have done. It will just make it all the more impressive when we steamroller everyone next season and win the league with maximum points ;)

Oh and really, you should probably include Leeds in that.. they didn't go up this year but that was only down to the point reduction. They would've had 91 points based on how well they actually did.

So we can create history by being the first relegated team to bounce straight back as champions. It has to happen some time.

Cognac not brandy (though in fact I've been drinking old Pineau des Charentes.

Facts and stats are great for arguing but mean sweet FA otherwise a team that had never been relegated from the top two divisions wouldn't have been relegated last season.

100% of the teams never to have been relegated to the third tier had never been relegated to the third tier.

:102:

The figures are for the last ten years. I've not checked but it's a racing certainty that's happened before.

Sorry must be the brandy. (btw I was chatting with the cellar master - the guy who mixes and defines the brandy - of three barrels brandy only last week)

Cognac is a bourgeois town, but the drink is of course British (or Irish if you prefer), 98% of the market is export.

While we're on the stats, let's not forget what happened to Bradford City and Notts County...

Division 2 here we come...

so thats says there is more chance of staying down than going up in a 10 year span.

No, because only those who went down in 97/98 have been down 10 years.

From what Newts posted:
97/98: all back within 4 years
98/99: 2 still not back after 9 years
99/00: 2 still not back after 8 years
00/01 2 still not back after 7 years
01/02 1 still not back after 6 years
02/3 1 still not back after 5 years
03/04 3 still not back after 4 years
04/05 2 still not back after 3 years
05/06 none back yet after 2 years

add to Newts list 06/07 2 still not back after 1 year

Which must tell us something. Probably that a lot of teams get back, mostly after 3-4 years, but a lot take a lot longer. If ever.

Warning: teams can go down as well up. Past performance is not necessarily a guide to future performance.

Milan Mandaric seems to be the only one who needs a reality check - he's the only one who's talking about back-to-back promptions.

It's just occurred to me - you don't think Milan is trying to talk up ST sales, do you?

Milan wouldn't do that, Redditch. He's doing what's best for the club and there is clearly no link between season tickets and a new manager! I'm amazed that you seem so skeptical. Just look at MM's unblemished past history.

It suddenly occured to me that it could be easier for him to project back to back promotions before a ball is kicked rather than when we are in the middle of the Third Division table in December.

Seriously, there is no reason why we shouldn't be promoted next season - but to pretend to fantasise about achieving the premiership in two years hardly does credit to the intelligence of at least some supporters.

The chances of successive promotions may not be very likely but it could still happen. Look how close Bristol City came last season. Man City did it too. I don't think it is a bad thing to aim for. What would be better for you? Would you prefer for MM to say we hope to struggle out of the division this season and just avoid relegation if possible next season? I think that what ever he says at the moment people will pick holes in it.

No - what I expect is something that suggests that the people running Leicester City have a small amount of respect for the intelligence of supporters.

I also expect that we might some acknowledgement of reality along the lines of promotion from the Third Division being a realistic objective for next season togehter with an indication that much work and a bit of patience may be required to make us as competitive as we want to be.

Incidentally I do realise that I am expecting too much.

I fully expect us to just scrape through the relegation dog fight next season.
I realise this may not be realistic, but you've got to have hope.
