There's no point 'winning' headers if you can't do anything productive with the ball, most of his headers were ineffective. I'd rather play the ball to MdV's feet and achieve nothing than play it to Dublin's head and get the same result.

But he didn't score - and I don't think he looked any more likely to score than MdV did. Like last season, he's getting more cards than goals.

MdV has already got 5 goals this season, Dublin only got 6 in the whole of last season.

I think Dublin would be a good player if we were playing with decent wingers and getting good crosses into the box - but we had no width on Tuesday and the crossing was poor. Just bringing him on to pump high balls up to him is a waste of time, we play better when we pass the ball around, and having him there encourages players just to aim for him instead of trying to play football.

I think we will just have to agree to disagree on this one. The one thing i cant understand is that no matter where you sit at the games there is lots of criticism for MDV for not winning headers, not scoring etc.... and on here is about the only place i know that defends him. When Dublin came on the other night, ok he didnt score, but the team as a whole looked far more likely to score. We threatened the goal 2-3 times first half but must have been half dozen times at least second.
I thought Dublin and Hume linked up well together. Or maybe we could try Hume and Hammond up front, that may stop the hoof tactics but then there will be moaning about not enough height in the box.

A good point Chris. We will have to change our style to suit whoever plays. I personally couldnt care on the style or personel at the minute as long as the ball ends up in the net and we win some fcuking football matches more often.

Dublin did nothing, it certainly livened up the other players when MDv went off but it was not because dublin contrtibuted.

Couldn't agree more.

IMO Dublin is nothing more than a squad player, good to have on the bench, as cover for both attack and defence, but overall he is a spent force. When he does play up front he doesnt do enough for me, on tuesday night I didnt feel he contributed anymore than De Vries, and I was disappointed CL didnt take the opportunity to try Hammond and Hume together. This season in the main, our best performances have usually been when Dion has not been involved, that is when we tend to play our best football. As other's have stated when he plays at the back he tends to play the long ball and when he is upfront his presence encourages the hoof, so either way he is detrimental to the style we adopt.

What interest's me is who CL will replace Dion, Wilcox and most likely Tiatto next season, all are out of contract at the end of the season and I would be surprised if any are offered terms beyond. But that will be the next big test for CL will he go for players of a similar ilk or will he freshen it up completely.
