Dyer Dedicates Goal To Cousin

Posted on: Sun 05 Oct 2008

Match-winner Lloyd Dyer was quick to dedicate his 90th minute strike to his late cousin Leon Lee.

The 18-year-old Birmingham man tragically lost his life a year ago on Saturday after an incident in a park in Kingstanding.

Dyer was extremely close to his cousin and was delighted to see his fortuitous effort find the back of the net at Huddersfield Town in stoppage time, to secure his side all three points.

He said: "I seriously can't remember how I put the ball into the net, but all jokes aside it was a special day for me today.

"This time last year, my cousin Leon was killed so I'm sure he was up there looking down on me and helped make that goal go in.

"I don't think that type of goal would ever have gone in normally. But whilst it is a sad day, my goal and our win will make things a little better for my family and friends, who knew Leon so well."

Dyer's last-gasp strike, after Matty Fryatt had put the Foxes two goals up, was his fifth of the campaign and the fourth successive away league game that he had scored in.

The 26-year-old winger added: "We took a 2-0 lead and looked comfortable but we got a bit sloppy and let them back into the game.
"However, we dug in, showed some good mental strength and came out with a great result in the end."

City are now three points clear at the top of the League One table but Dyer knows that manager Nigel Pearson will not let the squad get carried away.

"The manager will not allow us to get complacent but we all want to keep that momentum going and take this result into our next game at Oldham in a couple of weeks time."

Dyer also thanked the 2,500 fans who made the trip up to the Galpharm Stadium.

"They were great again and really got behind us. Hopefully they are enjoying seeing us win at the moment and will continue to support us right the way through the season."

Maybe just maybe Lloyd's cousin did help make that ball bounce nicely into the net.

Before every match in which Dyer has scored for us so far, I haven't cut my toe nails.
This fact is just as likely to have influenced the ball going into the net.

He said it in his post match interview on the radio yesterday.

I prefer to believe speed and trajectory and were contributing factors.

I heard him too, he was so convinced that his cousin had put the ball in the net that I was worried that the football league might have launched an inquiry and disallowed the goal.

Thankfully, the laws of physics have prevailed.

Same goes for the olympics.

Most black American interviews that I witnessed, the victor was thanking God for their victory.

So, you can't take drugs, yet some invisible c**t is allowed to push you down the track and that's deemed fair?

If I was their coach, and they had the cheek to thank God for their victory and I got no credit, I'd be smashing their knees in.

I looked up Kingstanding on Google since I'd no idea where it was. First entry is under chavtowns....

You might want to qualify that statement. :icon_wink

Okay.
Lloyd Dyer caused the ball to cross the line and go into the net by connecting with the ball from open play, it wasn't helped across the line by the ghost of his cousin.
Anybody that believes differently is delusional, in fact, Lloyd Dyer himself is deluded but I'm prepared to forgive him for his delusions if it means he will score more goals.

Go Leon, you feckin City legend.

I was just going to suggest inserting the word "known" in between "the laws" in the highlighted sentence. :icon_conf :102:

I know the dedication sounds a bit of a random, but i've lived in kingstanding and its horrid (i've also lived in fleckney and its even worse than there!). A load of Lloyds mates were over doing some work for me on the isle a few weks ago and said that the 2 of them were like brothers and it affected his game massively when he was murdered. Lloyd dedicating his goal to his cousin is a great gesture and, whilst not being morbid, something more footballers could do to raise awareness to local social issues. His dedication will get coverage in Kingstanding (and the reat of brum/sutton cfield) and if it makes only 1 of the local kids leave their knife at home then it can only be a good thing.

Indeed, but the fun is being pointed at the fact that Dyer insinuated that his cousin assisted in the goal.

After reading the LCFC world article i would agree, his cousin did not physically assist with the goal, it was matty fryatt wasnt it?

seriously tho, even tho i missed the point of this thread, its a great gesture to his cousin and the people of kinstanding... and perhaps something i feel a bit too much about to air my views this agressively on a sunday night on a lcfc forum

Maybe if his cousin hadn't been a drug dealer he wouldn't have been murdered.
He didn't get killed because someone who just happened to have a knife on them attacked him at random, it was premeditated. So isn't that sort of thing more likely to make people carry knives, to defend themselves?
