I may have missed something, but I didn’t think the government were funding it in any way? Aren’t they funding the development of the local area, but the stadium is financed by the club?

“While United would take responsibility for the stadium development, support from public bodies would be needed to unlock the wider regeneration opportunity. This would include improved transport infrastructure and housing around Old Trafford”.

It could be total nonsense, but I read somewhere that 50% of Manchester is unemployed. That’s bonkers. If some local investment lifts the place and gets some people back on their feet I wouldn’t oppose it.
