I like everyone was shocked at the behaviour of the spanish fans last night, but I was equally as shocked to see the reaction from the spanish FA, seemingly implying we were to blame!!! :

Were there racist chants? This hasn't happened in Spain for many years. You should ask yourselves what you have done to contribute to this.

This has really p*ssed me off.

Where is this from SF? that is shocking

I heard it was pretty bad for the Under 21's as well. The Spanish fans were making monkey noises and throwing bananas on the pitch. I didn't think the Spanish were becoming the new Turkey?? :o :(

I hope FIFA do something about it as we are normally getting the blamed. :x

Were the England fans well behaved last night ?? :?:

Unfortunatly racism will never be totally stopped, but I thought (as many others i'd think) that I would never hear again so many people aiming racist chants. You get the odd mindless idiot every now and again, but it sounded like a big group of 'supporters' last night.
(I am not calling anybody here, this is just an observation) but it is funny how the 'tar with the same brush' comments come out on subjects like this which can almost be as bad.

To be honest Naughty, it was probably just a poorly placed microphone that captured the dreadful noises.

Disagree, the microphones were probably placed there on purpose, because the 2nd half was the only time you could here it, so to me it was like they moved it during half time.

You could hear it in the first half everytime Cole got the ball, they only commented on it in the second half and it got louder when Wright-Phillips came on.

it was disgraceful, but having listened to 5 live today and having people ring in saying their kids were in tears and grown men couldn't sleep because of it I'm amazed at the over reaction.

Now don't get me wrong I'm not condoning it (far from it, the Spanish FA should be fined and whatever accompanying penalties are available should be used) but what sort of place do these middle class reactionaries live in?

They couldn't sleep and their kids were in tears because of monkey noises at a footy game, but probably would have slept like a log despite a female charity worker getting a bullet in her head for helping others.

It was pityful, but unfortunately racism isn't the major issue it is to the middle-class in Spain as it is here.

england

If the England fans had caused trouble last night there would only be one story that FIFA would be interested in. We must be the most persecuted nation in football.
Our past may have done us no favours, but had the England fans been chanting this bile then the authorities would not been able to ban us quick enough.
Every major tournament we are told behave or you will be kicked out.
What about the turks and Galatasary, the Leeds fans that were murdered, the dutch , the germans and the italians, not to mention the racism dished out by many eastern eurpean countries.
Its time for the governing bodies to wake up.Its not just England.
I thought the England fans were brilliant last night .Not only were they subjected to a disgusting performance from our own team, they also sang the anthem at the top of their voices towards the end of the game. That was despite the dreadfull night they had to endure.
IMO Spain should be made to play all remaining world cup games behind closed doors, but i would not hold my breath over it.

... or would have slept like a log despite 100 thousand civilians killed in Iraq. The strength of the criticism is somewhat hypocritical.

However this does not excuse the treatment dished out by Spanish fans. Moreover we should have walked off the pitch and left the Spanish to explain why we did that to the World's press.

which would give every club in the world who are 3-0 down, reason to make those noises and get the game nullified.
also, the england fans there last night would have kicked off big time and we'd be in poo too.
i heard that a black leicester teacher arrived at his first class to be greeted by those noises too.
nice...

You are probably right and I am just a little naive. :? :? :?

no steven, i've been in the car all day and heard every conceivable opinion on various phone ins
I haven't had an original thought for years mate!

that would have been shocking if they had done that, all the fans travelled over to spain to watch the match spent a fortune on getting there and ticket's to see the players walk off. you would be opening it for every player to walk when they are getting personal abuse, e.g. savage, keane, etc

Walking off the field would be giving into the Racist Scum,I felt most sorry for Wright-Phillips he only looks about 11.

I think we should draw a line under this one, let the F.A. sort it out.

Where's the usually vociferous boss of FIFA? If it had been England fans we'd have been banned and the team kicked out of every competition for 10 years before the papers were unwrapped on the newsagents' counters.
Talk about hypocrisy.

well, seeing as we have a very long and repetative history of related anti social incidents Tony....

But we have been pretty seriously punished and we have tried to improve matters...

I agree with Mr Elsby, although we have yet to fully get our house in order we have been the most proactive country in reducing and almost nullifying racism and violence at football matches, however we still seem to be drinking at the last chance saloon, every time there is the smallest incident involving English fans we are subjected to the threat of bans from all competitions.

Yet countries such as Holland, Italy, Germany, Turkey amongst others still have massive problems dealing with the behaviour of supporters, yet they are never subjected to the threats we have to endure.

Wednesday night epitomises this, the behaviour of Spanish fans was disgraceful, yet UEFA hid behind FIFA, refusing to condemn them, and as yet FIFA have been pretty quiet.

FIFA and Sepp Blatter in particular, want to be involved in every minor or menial decision that effects football, in an attempt to demonstrate the power and influence that they have, yet when it comes to making a decision that really does affect the game as a whole world wide, they stick there heads in the sand and ignore it.

Ask yourself one question, would Blatter and FIFA have ignored this if it was an African country who players were being abused, NO ! Would they have ignored it if it were English fans perpurtrating the abuse NO !

Now I know this was not a good idea as Blatter has also suggested it. :? :? :?
