The Flude families were well settled by this time in South Leicestershire and were respected members of the community as wealthy yeomen or gentleman farmers. The Enclosure Acts were also passed during this the period, between 1755-1780 and 1790-1830. As a result of these Acts the Flude families of wealth purchased large areas of their adjacent common land which they then converted to profitable farmland. The fertile land thus acquired stimulated the economy of the region into encouraging agriculture expansion and with it came wealthy husbandmen. This period also saw the beginnings of industrialisation, with the introduction of frame-work knitters in Hinckley and Lutterworth and the surrounding areas.
