I'm having exactly the same problem as Boc, on Excel 2003. Best so far is Excel > Notepad -> forum but it's still a bit of a mess.

Are there any settings in Excel we're not applying?

The 'fancy pants stuff' should be easy, nowhere near as complicated as your suggestion which would be a long winded way of doing it.

I suspect it's something to do with the settings in Excel.


When you paste a table from Excel into notepad, what does it look like?
Can you email me the text file?

Sort of...

There's a plug-in for the forum which would enable people to create tables using the BB codes. But that won't help people who are trying to paste stuff from Excel.

I think I may have worked out what the problem is - it looks like it's to do with the way the browser handles the text that's pasted in.

Boc's sent me a text file that won't work for him, but it works fine for me when I paste it into the forum using Firefox. I tried the same thing with Internet Explorer and it breaks the formatting.

Yours seems to be using spaces between the numbers, when I do it it uses tabs, which makes the layout more reliable. Did that come from notepad or straight from Excel?
