Except for Dickov having "very little reward" for the effort he put in... I know everyone hates him for the way he left, but he was good while he was here and got 32 goals in 89 games for us which is a decent strike record.

As for O'Grady, I think he'll be decent this season. Admittedly I havn't really seen him playing, but from what I've heard he's got the right attributes to be a decent player. I don't think he's ever gonna be a great player, or even good enough for a starting place, but from what I've heard, he's fast(ish), strong, and his record in friendlies and reserve games shows he's got an eye for goal, it's just not come for him yet in senior games.

I think he'll play an important part this season, coming off the bench to hold the ball up. I don't think he'll score loads, but he'll do his job and score 7 or 8 goals I reckon. A vital CO'G in the Leicester machine ;)

I see it :icon_wink

I could give that week in week out, it vary rarely makes a bad footballer good though. Look at our old No. 22....:018:
:018: If you're going to use arbitrary examples, I'll throw back the name Kevin Keegan... Limited footballer, but through sheer will he became a major force in World football.

It's the equation I like to use in life and work.

The amount of effort you put in, must equate to the results and rewards that you get out.

:102:

Are you suggesting that people with lots of talent needn't bother putting in as much as effort because they'll still be as good as those who make a real effort but aren't as talented? If so, that's a shite way of looking at life, if you don't mind me saying.

No, I wasn't

But in my team, if 2 people were achivieng the same results, I would pick the one that was putting in the least effort

why  :102: i would pick the person that showed the most effort
Well I wouldn't

a) He will not burn out so quick
b) There is much more room for improvement on effort, hence better performance
c) He's running a whole lot more efficiently

If you had 2 cars capable of 130mph, you would choose the one that did it at the lowest revs

I would pick the most effective player, but if the two players' output was absolutely identical, I would pick the one most likely to have a positive impact on his fellow team mates. And it's unlikely that a brilliant yet casual step-over would win over the guy beating his chest and getting stuck in.

I'm not talking about flash casual step overs.

I'm talking about:

Strikers - Right place, right time. Knowledge and foresight as opposed to running around like a blue arsed fly. If Lineker and Dickov were both in the same team and scored 20 goals a season each for 5 years running and I had to get rid of one, Dickov would go. Lineker will always be in the right place for when a cross or through ball is played.

Midfield - Glenn Hoddle is the prime example, can spread the play easily with seemingly very little effort, he wasn't flash or a Ronaldo type of player, he was clever.

I won't debate this any further, as I am not talking about lazy players or players that show no pride or committment, I'm just talking about inefficient players

I am sure you know what I mean, exaclty the same as I know what you guys mean

Surely you would choose the one designed to do 130mph :icon_eek:

Well if they both did that speed, you would choose the most efficient. Obviously they are both designed to do that speed, it's no accident

calm down ladies :)

The original point I was trying to make about Chris O'Grady was that he may (deservedly) get a chance ahead of more naturally talented players because with the added attributes of drive and determination, the net effect may well be that his overall contribution IS greater.

Granted, you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. But you could make a purse that would be very effective. And, in the cold light of day, whilst not looking as good, it might actually work out better than the silk purse...

It turned out that, after a few nice showings, the silk purse didn't have the same glossy quality as it first seemed, had to be handled very gently, didn't like going out in the rain, and sometimes "wasn't in the mood". :icon_wink

I'm not ignorant to your point of view Des, I'm just trying to let you know how I would work.

I'm not trying to say who is right or wrong, or make you have the same opinion as me, it's just different methods

As for O'G. He is in the squad, lets wish the guy the best of luck and hope he gets his chance to prove himself. I am not a fan of the rotation sytem, so I don't want to see him starting every other week, but to come on after 60/70 minutes, to fill a role, I think he should be given a fair crack of the whip

And finally I agree with you Melts... see how you always win us over, you smooth talking fecker?! :icon_lol:
