Don't see the problem. We're all the time predicted to win 72-0 so a mere 67 goal win shouldn't cause all this fuzz. 79-0 might just be a little bit suspicious though.

I'm not sure where in the article you read that. In fact he had only completed 28 hours out of the 250.

That's not the way it works. The £3,000 is not a punishment for not completing the community service. He has simply been resentenced for the original offence. Maximum penalty for that is £5,000. He has been given a discount for a prompt guilty plea and for the community service already carried out.
If you look at it another way, the 28 hours he has already done could count as, say, half a weeks work - over £75k on your suggested figures. Take away the maximum £5k fine and the court owes him £70k.

I misunderstood "the striker still had to complete most of his hours". It seems slightly ambiguous, in my defence!
