FIF, have you ever been involved with trouble at a football match? I very much doubt it from what I have read of your posts in this thread.

Of course I have. I didn't miss a game in the 80s - I saw an old man walking along the opposite side of the street suddenly engulfed by thugs and beaten to a bloody mess within seconds as the wave passed, I've ran in fear down side streets as hundreds ran up them and I've seen the same hundreds turn tale as City "supporters" came down the other way. I 've seen police beaten up and police beat up.

I can't believe that you think it's a footy problem, its a tribal thing which has happened for millenia.

Then when is it far less common with Rugby/Cricket/Basketball/NFL fans groups?

I remember in the 70's being involved giving Leeds Utd fans a good kicking in Leeds, purely because they were Leeds Utd fans and nothing else. This was football related and nothing else. If you want to call a group of people a tribe then do so and hide behind academic theories and such, but it is all to do with football. It's a policing problem if anything.

I remember running from Cheatsea fans in the 70's, and I remember being pretty scared walking to the old QPR ground for some reason too. it's not a football problem is a society problem. I don't think it's a policing problem but an educational problem (home/school/community)

I also remember a lot of shit being talked by BS members in the pub opposite Cranmer St/Ridley st which I stopped going to soon after.

you quote two FOOTBALL teams there FIF, can you tell me of any other "tribes" you ran away from that were not connected to football. Seems to be football connected every time.

You seemed to do a lot of running away though.

I have to say, I agree entirely with FIF on this one (which seems to be happening far too much recently).
It isn't a football problem, it has been happening for longer than football has existed.
The fact is, there has always been a section of working class males that enjoy group violence, it is a buzz for them. Football has traditionally been a working class sport and provides a convenient tribal group for them to associate with.

If football didn't exist, organised group violence between groups of working class men still would.

so like i said its gonna happen wherever, its better away from the ground than at it nowadays.which is what the government wanted in all honestly.

What did the government want and how do you know this?
