What's it got to do with the council, it's on private land isn't it

But it wasn't even the club's idea - looks like all the club is doing is letting them use the venue :icon_roll

"The Foxes have agreed to host the 450-stall market in the stadium's car park following an approach by market bosses."
Right, that sheds a whole new light on this situation.

I was commending the club for coming up with this idea and what a great initiative it was to bring new people to matches and to buy merchandise.

Ater all that praising it's the f*cking councils idea. So I'm back to the firm opinion that our club couldn't organise a piss up in a brewery. If they could, they might be getting £80,000 per year instead of £40,000

I was the first on here to applaud the news, and still do. It was quite clear in the original stories that this was a Sunday market, not, as a most posts seemed to assume, a series of car boot sales. As such, it has to be run by the council, who are the only people allowed to run markets in the city.

A market will obviously have regulated letting of pitches / stalls, market inspectors, safety controls, trading standards etc - all done by the council. The owners of the site simply let out and maintain their land, for which they will get a return - plus the opportunity to market the club and make a bit of money from their refreshment facilities.

To me that is, as I said in my first post, an ideal set-up for the club, whereby they get some income from their major asset which is otherwise lying idle, without having to get involved in a lot of additional work on something which is not related to their core activity.

I look forward to some more ideas like this which will sweat the assets a bit more.

I agree with what you say OG, apart from the above quote.

It looks like we had no part in rasing this idea, it looks like the Council did all the planning and came up with the idea and then approached the club for a venue.

Although it will still raise capital which cannot be turned down, we still didn't have the right brain on board to come up with this idea for ourselves.

There won't be many more ideas like this as you put above, because the Council don't work for us

No reason why others who might find a use for the site should not pick up on this.

For instance, part of the car park could easily be marked out for use for netball, 5 a side, etc which local leagues could hire - don't know what the situation is in Leicester, but in most places there is a desperate shortage of such facilities.

Agreed, it would be good if the club were more pro-active than it appears they have been, but in the end I couldn't give a toss who has the idea first.

Good point about others picking up on it. I think we are basically agreeing.

But, if the club came up with the ideas then they would receive 100% of the profits instead of sharing them with the brain.

That seems to be the mentality of our board, "lets put the onus on others to raise money for us, including the fans, because we have ran out of ideas"
