I was rounded on last season for criticising 30 goal Fryatt because he was often sloppy in front of goal and missed too many easy chances.

Now you are all clamouring for another striker. Is 30 goal Fryatt not the dog bollox anymore?

No, everyone wants a new striker because if Fryatt or Howard get injured we don't have good enough backup/competition.

More that we have nobody beyond Fryatt and Howard.

I'm a bit worried about both of them to be honest, in terms of fitness and whether they'll score enough goals (they'd score enough goals to keep us up, but not for promotion I think)

I'm happy to start with Fryatt and Howard as first choice, but they need competition/backup.

Most of the teams to have been promoted recently from the Championship have had more than 2 good strikers and rotate between them I think

Fryatt is only 23, he should be learning all the time. It will be one of the key questions of the season whether we shall see 2007 Fryatt or early 2008-09 Fryatt. I think he has it in him to be a good, but not brilliant, striker at this level.

The reason everyone say we need a new striker is the fact that he is all we have, along with Howard.

Dany N'Guessan, Paul Dickov, Astrit Ajdarevic, Ashley Chambers, DJ Campbell, Craig King, Ricky Sappleton.

Is 9 strikers enough depth?

N'Guessan - winger
Dickov - bit too old/slow/shit
Ajdarevic - winger
DJ Campbell - attitude problems, doesn't want to play for us
Chambers, King, Sappleton - how many first team games have they got between them?

N'Guessan was signed as a winger, not as a striker... it's not his main position.

Astrit isn't a striker at all, so I don't know why you've included him.

DJ won't play again for us, clearly, see the million posts on here already about the subject.

Dickov wasn't good enough last season, in a lower division.

Chambers, King, Sappleton haven't played more than a handful of first team games between them, and by most accounts aren't ready/aren't good enough to do.

We have no viable striking options beyond Howard and Fryatt

I don't really know why I've bothered to dignify that with a response though, as you know none of those players are good options.

Dany N'Guessan, was signed as a winger
Paul Dickov,Fair enough, not many people rate him now though.
Astrit Ajdarevic,Midfielder.
Ashley Chambers,Still young, you wouldn't want to rely on him.
DJ Campbell,Crap and hopefully going.
Craig King,Don't know enough about him to comment.
Ricky Sappleton.Another crap Allen signing.

Both listed by the OS as strikers, still what do they know!

I have always liked Ashley Chambers when seen him, here's hoping he can kick on this season ala King last..

Feels like Chambers has been knocking on the door for years and years, he has to make a move soon, especially with our lack of depth in his position this season.

I agree, I don't know what regulars think but from a distance he doesn't seem to have actually contributed much in the matches he has come off the bench in. Hasn't been given as many opportunities as you may have thought either.

With the 7 subs rule, I'd definetely expect Ashley to get more chances this season, certainly if we don't sign more strikers.

But in pre-season, Dickov still seems to be getting more gametime than Chambers...
