I don't agree 100%. Improving someone's natural pace by more than a fraction is nigh on impossible for any coach.
It has been achieved. Richard Dunne at Man City is one example.
Fryatt is clearly overweight and this suggests he is not as fit as he could be and doing something about that is certain to improve his mobility and probably his pace. Even a marginal improvement could help.
Agreed, if he lost weight and was therefore sharper his game woudl improve no end. A player like Fryatt needs to be quick over 10 yards not 100 so its more about reaction time and thinking time rather than pure physical pace.
