That's why planting them in the ground is good, you can keep earthing them up, after planting them in furrows.
Spuds are a great way to break the soil up too, it's more than just the initial cropping

Remarkably easy to grow. Plant the seeds indoors and cover until they germinate. Once big enough, separate into pots and let them grow. Once they start to flower, you need to put them outside so that the bees etc can do their work.

I bought a pot kit from Tesco for 1.99 and have had 50+ green chillies from the plants so far.

Chillies = easy. You can grow from seed inside or by plants. I grow some in a small greenhouse and some on the patio. Follow the instructions and they will produce. I picked up a tip from Monty Don who recommends never water after 4pm. I grow loads and dry and pickle the majority of myharvest.
