Dont know if its has been raised before (apologies if it has). Anyone got any preferences for their utility supplier ? Was contacted by Scottish Power last night who were offering a 10% reduction from current provider British Gas. You can pay DD monthly online and only pay for what you use by giving monthly readings. oh and they were also offering 6 months free Setatanta sports. Any input anyone?

Yeah i had looked at that i was more after peoples own personal experiences with the providers. Cheers anyway

I wouldnt touch EDF with a barge pole... had major problems with them, culminating with me being threatened with a CCJ for a bill for a property I wasnt even living in. Currently with e-on and have had no problems (but then I have to say that as my sis works for them :) )

We are currently with EON I think (we're with Powergen) and generally good service except they consistently get their estimations massively wrong despite us being in the property for over 2 years now. I have to phone to correct them every time we get a bill.

we are with Scottish Power and have been since we moved into our current property, touch wood we have never had a problem with them.

We're with Scottish power and never had any problems with them. I think it depends on where you live for who's cheapest.

As for Setanta, we bought a topuptv box from ASDA on Monday for £50.
6 months free Setanta (although there is a £20 joining fee)1 month topuptv and 1 month picturebox(film channel). It works out at around £80s worth of TV for £70 and a very good digibox.

if you register with them online you can enter your meter readings - they sent you an email to prompt you and then your bill is correct from the start. :)

We are with Scottish Power and have been for about a year. Never had cause to complain but then again we didn't with Eon who we used previously.

Been with EDF for 3 years now and never had a problem. We are on their read, reduce, reward scheme. So I get an email reminder to send in a meter reading in every so often and then my bills are always right, if I forget to send it in then they estimate the bill and I just ring them to change it to the meter reading and they send out a new bill.

The only thing I would say (and I reckon this applies to all utility suppliers) is if they try to put up your monthly payments ring them and tell them what you want to pay. They always want you to be in credit so they earn the interest so will over quote what you need to pay each month by around 15 – 20 quid. This is a favourite trick after the winter bills have come through as these will always be higher than the summer bills. Just make sure you aren’t more than £150 in debit at the 12 month review as they usually have something in their small print that says if you are then they can take the amount your in debit by as a lump sum at that time!

But if you sent a reading through every month you wouldnt be in debit?

I send a reading every quarter. Then pay my monthly set figure, if that doesn't cover me then I could be in debit.

Ah i see. Scottish Power were asking for a monthly and would only charge for what you use.

I have been trying out as a Scottish Power rep and must say they are the cheapest and the online version is cheaper still. A pity I didnt see this earlier as I have the machinery to find out -with a post code and what deal you are currently on as to HOW MUCH you could save by switching to Scottish Power.

However it wasnt for me as I couldnt sell enough - so all the gear goes back today. Moving on to other things but I can say that the Marketing company I worked with were very ethical as are Scottish Power who seem to be a better option than all the others and will not stand for anyone who isnt ethical or trys to promise things not possible or not have a squeeky clean background as only 2 of us from original training course were taken on

We had some Scottish Power people knock on our door a few weeks ago and they certainly didn't act in an ethical way, they lied about being the cheapest (they weren't), and told us all the price comparison websites were biased against them, which is a load of bollocks.
