Never going to be a superstar, and at the minute this club is a distraction that he doesn't need.

Pay him off, give him a nice lump sum to continue looking after his family, and let the guy get on with his life.

Would suit both parties IMO.

Maybe the lads' only distraction from his premature family turmoil is playing well on the football field?

Maybe.

But I'm a human being, and I'm thinking on a humanitarium level. Sometimes, life is more important than work, and work is pulling him away from his family. Life is certainly always more important than football.

This isn't a right or wrong debate, it's just my personal opinion on what would best help him through this situation. If it's the French way for the eldest Son to take over the family, I wouldn't like to think of a brainless English football fan screaming for him to get back to work hindering his judgement. I don't suppose his younger siblings would understand his desire to play football as the "only distraction from his premature family turmoil is playing well on the football field" over their welfare.

I don't know his family's financial situation, I don't know where his priorities in life lie. I see a nice pay out and a return to his family could be exactly what they all need. But as I said, I'm talking on a humanitarian level and not a footballing level. Of course, to the brainless football fan, football is the only thing in the world.

I don't know him, I am not trying to decide for him, I'm going on what would be best for me.

Melts, I think I understand and in many ways agree with your humanitarian approach to this but aren't we in danger of second guessing the personal circumstances surrounding his family situation?

Maybe he needs to fulfill his apparent abilities to provide some financial security to his young siblings and staying in the game would surely give him the best prospect of acheiving a reasonable level of income.

I'm not aware of what his contracts worth but I would be amazed if under current payscales for young players there's any long-term security for his family in paying it up. But then I'd also be speculating...

I'm struggling to see any comments in this thread that could be attributed to screaming, brainless football fans. I'm sure we all would agree that family life is more important than work, and only the most misguided fanatic would agree that football is no more than an occasional distraction from the real responsibilities of life.

I think Kevin Bond has responded to Max Gradel's situation with sensitivity and balance and I would like to think that the posts on here, yours included, also reflect those sentiments.

My "brainless football fan" comments were not aimed at anybody on here, just my experience in general. Apologies if anybody thought otherwise.

Yes, we are in danger of second guessing his family situation, but I think you give us too much credit. We are just a bunch of geeks on an internet forum, I doubt we will have any influence over his decision, if indeed there is even one to make.

I do agree with nearly all of what you said, in particular the part where you suggest than only a misguided fan would put football over real life matters. Unfortunately, in my experience and opinion, these are not exactly few and far between. We are all misguided to some extent, but some to the levels that their family life suffers, and in some cases the family life dies because of their obsession for football.

I concur with and respect your comments. Coincidentally I was having just this discussion with a devoted and life long Hammarby fan after the game with Elfsborg in Stockholm last night.

I also recognise that many, myself included, have to recognise that there are obsessive behavioural patterns associated with devotion to a football team that occasionally, or in exterme cases frequently, threaten the most important foundations of family life.

All those wives, girlfriends and partners out there who comment as such surely cannot be considered wholly unreasonable or wrong in their assessments.

Anyway...my voice of reason is away tonight so I'm about to focus on the AIK-Djurgarden derby match on TV over here....and Nisse Johanssen is playing for AIK...oh shit...I've slipped again...

Meltons just called me a cnut for no reason.......:icon_eek:

He played today in Bournemouth's 1-0 win over Crewe. Was subbed after 89 minutes as Kevin Bond wanted the fans to show their appreciation to him.

Whilst we moan about commitment, look at Bournemouth, fecked all season and they were struggling for a team. They consist mostly of loannees, can't pay wages and were docked ten points. After an incredible run of results, they are still not confirmed as down and if results go their way next Saturday, they stay up.
