Not too sure about James he needs a few games first

He's had a few games in the PL - 27 to be precise. And he was poor, and that was before he was crocked.

He's hardly going to have got better sitting in the treatment room for the past two years.

James is getting a full pre season so will hopefully be fit. He was an important part of the great escape side, basically doing all Cambiasso's running. I'm certainly not going to write him off at this stage

What's all this bollocks about him being an important part of the great escape?

Let's have a look closer shall we:

West Ham 2-1 win: played 90 mins.
West Brom 3-2 win: started the game, came off after 60 mins losing 2-1, we go and win 3-2.
Swansea 2-0 win: didn't play.
Burnley 1-0 win: came on after 77 mins whilst already 1-0 up.
Chelsea 3-1 loss: came on after 12 mins, but we lost.
Newcastle 3-0 win: played 90 mins
Southampton 2-0 win: played 13 mins and then came off injured.
Sunderland 0-0 draw: injured.
QPR 5-1 win: injured.

Wow what a contribution.

As I say, selective memory.

That is interesting because it was definitely my perception that he had played an important role in the great escape (tm).
I bet he didn't score or assist on those games either.

He missed the start of the season too and got sent off against Villa..

2014–15 season
Having missed the start of the season through injury, James made his first Premier League appearance on 21 September 2014, as a second-half substitute in a 5–3 victory against his former club, Manchester United.[16] On 10 January 2015, James picked up the second red card of his career in the 1–0 victory over Aston Villa, he was given a straight red following a strong challenge on Jores Okore and an ensuing altercation with Ciaran Clark that resulted in Clark receiving a second yellow card himself.[17] In a 2–0 win over Southampton on 9 May, James ruptured his anterior ligaments and was ruled out for between six and nine months.[18]

Great that we have a ball playing centre back at last. Would love us to bid for Chris Smalling if we can't get Jonny Evans, or even instead of him.

Would be happy with either, upgrades are needed. Though I'd only like Smalling playing for us if he either grows a proper beard or gives assurances that the landing strip of minge topiary will not feature on his bottom lip.

Come on, you know it excites you.

James was good and is a very good young player. We're lucky to have him.

Lucky to have him, no we're not. James is an average Premier League player at best, and I think that is being generous. As CF has pointed out, let's not rewrite history to support an argument that doesn't stand up. And he's 25 so no longer in the 'young player' category.

I think that's being extremely generous.

I've never understood the love for James. He's never impressed me. He's lightweight, awful in front of goal and liable to go down injured at any given moment. He has no pace to get away from players either.

My only optimism is if he's improved by watching and reflecting over the last couple of years. Sometimes that does help a player like him. His only real quality is his passing and vision.

I just can't see him getting near our side ahead of the players we've got now, and I'm hoping that we strengthen that area of the team further this summer.

Sell while he's fit, I say.

Yep. He's a very slightly upgraded Paul Gallagher really. The odd good game but generally a bit... well...meh...
