the dd house is about to get a new tv after 15 years and yes it shall be hd, but im wondering is it woth investing in a hdmi cable for my 360? Ive got a component cable which i believe allows you to play in hd so whats the benefits of hdmi? Also i notice an official 360 hdmi cable costs 20 quid, whereas unofficial ones are ridiculously cheaper, so is there really much difference between them?

Any advice appreciated

Don't waste money on an expensive HDMI. £5 off eBay will do the same job. Does your 360 defo have an HDMI port? Not all do.

You'll get HD from the component cable but HDMI will be better.

You need to look at your 360 and see if it has an HDMI port.
If it does, then it has HDMI. If it doesn't, then I doubt if it will.

im not in my room right now and cant be arsed to go upstairs, plus to be honest i dunno what it looks like. but just for you macky i will go and look

theres two unused ports next to my av port which have never been used, but i dunno if there hdmi as theres no indication what there for

Component from the 360 only goes to 1080i I believe. HDMI goes to 1080p. If you TV doesn't do 1080p it answers your question! Also, if you are planning on using the 360 to upscale your DVDs to HD then it won't do it via HDMI cable, but it will via component.

yup, the quality obviously isn't as good as proper HD DVD or Bluray, but is certainly noticeably better than normal.

I think thats the other way around Beights. Only upscales via HDMI or VGA.

Can't be, I've only got Component and mine upscales.

Interestingly you seem to be right according to a quick google search, I'm sure I read somewhere that HDMI stops it doing something DVD related.

I have a HD upscaling surround DVD player anyway so don't use the Xbox anymore, but used to.
