slightly unrelated but i couldnt be bothered to start a new thread-can you play a 360 through surround sound, and if so, whats the best way to go about this? I'll be using a component cable if this helps...

You can, you need to take the two audio out cables in the 5 cable component bunch and plug them into the audio in on your DVD player or surround amp. In the end I stopped because a) it was too loud! b) it meant having to turn on the DVD player as well as the Xbox and c) as there are only two cables I believe it is only stereo, even though is uses all the speakers.
I think that there is an optical out on the xbox, which if you are lucky will plug into your DVD player and give true surround, but I don't have one on my DVD player so can't confirm.

I'm running mine through the optical but again youd need to check you have one on your 360, not sure if all do.

Ok it does but i need to buy a optical cable. Another question as i don't understand these things, is there any reason why it won't let me play at 1080p? The option is there but when i select it no image appears.

And as far as i know my tv is up to the task of playing this high a resolution

Component doesnt support 1080p, you need to be running through HDMI to get 1080p

Hmm it does indeed. In fact I can get mine to do it at 1080p here right now. Wonder why I couldn't before? Do you have the latest Xbox system updates?

Well when i brought Beatles rockband, it did some update and i now have a different dashboard etc. But it won't let me play at 1080p even though my tv is capable. Odd.

you can select the option but when you do it just blacks out.

That, to me, sounds more like a problem with the TV, do you have the TV set to 100hz mode?

Some TVs come with a 100hz mode, I'm not sure if the Xbox supports that. Not sure though.
