Re: Holloway out

i really want ollie to stay for a long time. i believe that given time and support, he will get us going in the right direction. he turned plymouth into a very good team at championshp level on funds that are nowhere near what we have now, so that proves that he can spot a good signing. atm his jokes and open personality are annoying alot of people because it looks like he is more focused on being popular than making his team successful, but thats just the way he is and has always been. give him time and he will make us a half decent side and we'll all be saying what a great manager he is and his jokes will be funny again.

Re: Holloway out

next season and beyond I like him as a manager and not only that I have taken into consideration we need some stability.

Re: Holloway out

I hate this thread title.
You guys are a source of constant amusement for me. When I get depressed about our best players going, or the threat of a ten point penalty and financial meltdown spend two minutes on here and life don't seem so bad.
Keep up the good work.

Re: Holloway out

What some City fans don't realise is that there is always someone worse off than ourselves.
Of course, that doesn't help our obvious predicament, and some will say " I don't give a shit about others", but hey Rhydal it's good to be of help;)

agreed...it doesn't reflect the poll or the general conscensus of opinion..why not change it to "How much longer would you give Holloway as Manager?" as that is the actual question being asked...

to me it reflects the rampant negativity out there resident in those with a quick fix mentality and the combination will get us nowhere...well... other than Hartlepool or Yeovil possibly...

True.

Re: Holloway out

I would hope that IH stays for at least 18 months, because we are desperate for some kind of stability.

However results count and if he becomes the first manager to take us down to the third tier of english football then he will have to go, and if results continue their sorry path then IMO MM will pull the trigger sooner than that.

Reminds me of the good old days before Milan arrived. :)

Re: Holloway out

It amuses me from time to time that the people currently defending Holloway are in many cases the same ones who wanted Megson out after a few games and were disgusted by the idea of us having an experienced, proven manager like Joe Royle or Peter Reid or Graeme Souness, as opposed to a guy who's really rather a laugh and gets on TV quite a lot.

Holloway shouldn't be fired. Of course not. No manager in this position - which is, I might add, the worst in our history and almost entirely Mr. Mandaric's making - should be fired and if he keeps us up then he's done a reasonable job under the circumstances but we can't kid ourselves that he's beyond reproach. It took him 6 games to realise what Martin Allen knew before the season even started, namely that we have a lot of very lazy very inept players on our books.

As with the takeover, too many supporters haven't learnt their lesson and they´ve spent so much time waxing lyrical about someone for no good reason that now they can't admit they were wrong. I imagine those board members who tried to block Mandy's takeover are having quite a laugh at the moment. They should invite Martin Allen and the Foxes Trust round, they could have a party.

I think this is largely right although too harsh on Mandaric who can hardly be directly blamed for player attitudes.

I suppose that Holloway got carried away by getting a 'bigger' club - and this meant that it took him a while to realise what the rest of us already knew that we have a large, unwieldy, unbalanced squad with too many demotivated misfits.

We must have some stability now - however, that stability depends on having the right base. Let's hope that Holloway's quirkiness is just a front and underneath there is a shrewd football manager. His previous records suggests that he may be competent - so he needs to be given a decent chance.

I'm sick of losing. But I fully realise that the majority of the squad are nothing short of shit (or so deeply ****ed in terms of confidence). Just let him get on with it and we can start afresh in the summer. This season is just a waste of time and write-off. There is no real point in getting too bothered about it and calling for yet another manager who will have exactly the same problems.

This thread has two posts in a row that are sensible and level headed. It must stop immediately. I've heard some awful things about Holloway on this forum and speculate that they are true because he has the look of the possessed and has not denied them and therefore I think he should have his eyes removed with a rusty spoon. I think i can speak for the vast majority in saying that i would be willing to accept a small increase in season ticket prices to see this at half time. Alternatively he should paint his face blue and white, wear a LCFC jesters hat and breakdance in the technical area. This is well known to be the only way to get acceptance form the fans....unless you were a former club captain.

It seems Clive Clarke placed a lot of importance on instilling confidence in the players. He was saying Keane won't give the players much confidence because he thinks they're not good enough and won't talk to them. And looking at the position on the ladder that Sunderland have this comment looks like it has some merit. Question is: can Holloway instill confidence in our squad? We have twenty matches left till the end of the season. Not a lot of time left really when you're still getting a team together and trying different combinations. If we avoid the drop, and I think we will, then I think Holloway's job is safe. If not I'd say Milan will be looking to be rid of him, no matter how we might feel.

Ian Holloway should retain his post for the rest of the season talk of dismissal this season is folly. IH should be given to chance to mount NEXT seasons promotion challenge and I say that whether that promotion campaign is faught from the Championship - or even from division 1 should the club be relegated during this season. In normal times a manager would not keep his job if the club sank into division 1, but Holloway has only really just started to get his own team in. He has to be given a chance and press rumours were that MM is giving him £8m to play with (though that might include additons to the wages bill as well as transfer fees), so I can't imagine he won't be given time to see how a new team gels NEXT season.
Having said that, my caveat is that the club needs to be challenging strongly by Novemember next season to keep his job, and if the club are nowhere you can't blame MM if he pulls the trigger again, but it should not happen this season. I have not enjoyed November/December under Holloway, but I blame long-seated problems to do with the players themselves and previous managers. I support the manager for now. We should not really be talking about dismissal. If the team under-performs next season, this will be a different matter I would agree. I believe we should be thinking much more positively than the title of this thread; a new team is about to be forged from this month - lets look forward to that. We should reassess our positons in next season.

Its been shown time and time again that constantly changing your manager has a negative effect on a teams performance. I believe Holloway can turn this around. But i'm not yet convinced.

Megson came in and saw where the strength of the team was (i.e the center backs) and so played a formation to suit. My concern with Holloway is that he doesn't (or is unwilling) to change the way that he wants his team to play to fit in with the players he currently has available. I'm hopeful that in the long term this will work out in his favour. But right now we need points.

Short term fix. Playing 9 defenders won't get you promoted. Perhaps Holloway is trying to get the team playing in the formation that he believes is the best way to play football in the knowledge that he'll lose a few games in the short term but once he gets in the players he wants the rest of the team that remains will already be used to the tactics? I can't read minds but i think it's fair to give the guy a season to prove his worth based on his previous record and the fact that he seems to be doing the things that most people think would improve the club i.e. playing a solid formation, not too defensive, or attacking, getting rid of some of the dross and getting (hopefully) some decent players.

Giving the man time could mean taking a drop into League 1.

I'm happy to do that and come back stronger, I don't give a toss about a three-year plan...I'm just sick of losing.
