Wigan stayed up anyway so...

Not only that, but to be fair, Heskey played a blinder.

However, the principles remain the same: he is only good enough for a struggling prem side and a) he wouldn't re-join Leicester until he is a few years further down the track b) MM doesn't spend big money on transfers.

Heskey is a good player, fair enough he wasn't worth £11m, but IMO he should be in the England squad, far better than Johnson, Bent.....

Whatever Hesky once had is now long gone.

I wouldn't be bothering with him.

Well I don't quite remember him being an absolute giant in single-handedly leading the last line of defence against an absolute onslaught, and giving every ounce of his very being to make sure that his team win the game

His display was outstanding

Seemed to me that that he's developed very nicely from the player we used to see week in week out

Pontus Kåmark said in Swedish TV last night that he was glad that Wigan stayed up, "because of his mate Emile Heskey that he knew from his time in Leicester".

He had massive potential.

You may recall that he was trailed by Liverpool for years before they signed him.

However, he has never scored that many goals.

I Don't think anybody has ever bought him to score loads. but his contribution to the team is excellent, and he will make goals for his strike partner. Owen was never as good without Heskey.

Neither was Stan. ;)

Or any of the other strikers we had. Heskey was and still is an absolute legend. OK he doesn't score as many goals as someone like Owen would in a season but he as many have said previously the amount he contributes to the team is phenomenal.

His performance against The Blades was just typical of the bloke and he was by far the best player by a country mile for the whole 90 mins. Even when he slotted in as centre half his performance was even better! If that scissor kick had gone in then it would have summed up his performance perfectly - superb.

I was so pleased for him that Wigan stayed up and I'm sure he'll be playing regularly in the Prem for at least another couple of seasons so I can't see him re-joining us in the short - medium term without us getting promoted first!

Well done Emile! :038:

I remember him playing about an hour of one home game (can't remember which one) mostly at left back after someone got sent off/injured. He can look good in just about any position on the park. But the times he carried that team... top bloke!

The following word is all too often used inappropriately *, but in this case I think we can safely say that Emile Heskey is a GENUINE Leicester City LEGEND.
:038: :038: :038:

* For example, Big Trev was a cult hero, and a crap footballer, but NEVER a "legend"

One slight quirk about his time at Liverpool was that the one season that Owen was out all year with injuries (Emile's first full season with them I think) he scored 20 goals and was their top scorer. Perhaps if he is made the focal point of the attack things are different for him with his confidence. Has always been a team player though, I think to his own detriment...

On the BBC websites live text thing before the games on Sunday, it said then that Wigan's chances of staying up very much relied on which Emile Heskey turned up... the one who just can't find his way into the game, or the Heskey that is simply unplayable.
From the sounds of it, Wigan got the second on Sunday.

I love Heskey, but he has definetely lost his way over the years slightly, in that I don't think he's fulfilled the potential he showed when with us. His best years probably were with us still. However, he gets a LOT more stick than he deserves from other people, and should still be in or at least near the England setup. Can't see him playing with Rooney or probably Crouch, but with Owen, Defoe, Bent or Johnson he'd be good.

From the highlights I saw I would agree that he did appear to have a fantastic game. I can't take that from him.

I don't get the impression that that is par for the course though...more likely it was an important game and Heskey stood up and was counted. If there was more to it then he would probably not be at Wigan, and I know that most Brum scummers can't think of anything pleasant to say about him.

Fair play on his efforts on Sunday though. He did give me pause for thought and perhaps he would be 100% up for playing for the club where it all started for him. Not sure about his pedigree as a goal scorer anymore though. His record as a frontman at both Wigan and Brum hasn't been the stuff of Legend...more the stuff of country songs.

Two performances from Heskey stand out for me. They were both at home, one against Liverpool when cottee scored a headed winner from Emile's cross and the second game was when we beat Chelsea (can't remember the score) think Emile scored two and he terrorised them!

Heskey game would be decided in the first 10 minutes. If he started well he could destroy a team but if he started badly he lost confidence and couldn't do a thing right.

What a legend!

That was Aston Villa away in the league-cup semi final - the one where John Gregory accuse us of not crossing the half way line - if memory serves me correct.

Emile was a legend in Leicester. I understand why he left for Liverpool but he should never have gone there. Just like when he played for England, at Liverpool he was never as good as his potential. At Leicester he was a big fish in a small pond. He was also the main man and focus of our play. At aLiverpool and especially for England he was just another player.
