Is it still the case that more people, like meself, leave the UK each year than the numbers coming in? That was a fact a few years ago, although I know things have changed a bit recently.
Whatever, it does look like a convenient excuse to trot out the "running out of space" arguement. Remember 9-11, which was a "good day to bury bad news"? Could it be that this is a good recession to bury bad policies?
