Alf Garnett was a contrived character

No need to feel guilty about liking Alf Garnett Melton. The character was a work of genius. He made people look at themselves and see that racism and other forms of prejudice only made them look stupid. Alf did more to break down the barriers than the namby pamby PC idealogues of today.

Garnett was as racist as they come. He made a comment about blacks and the canned laughter came back. Most of us can see beyond his attempts at laughter and view it in a different way, sadly half of Britain cant and Garnett is nothing more than The Sun newspaper personified. What about programmes like Mind Your Language?

The MOBO awards point I agree, a highly subjective thing. I dont agree Lenny Henry or Spike Lee are racist. Spike Lee is a film-maker and simply trying to mirror real life which contains main racist characters.

I am not of EE origin but I have friends from the EE and I have visited the EE, never encounting any probelms with race despite seeing Black sportsman and musicians plus a married Asian man to a Pole and Asian tourists all there.

You swap all the words "Black" for "white, and all the words "white" for "black" in Lenny Henry and Spike Lees statements/interviews, you'll then understand what I mean

Garnett was a fictional character who was based upon the general feeling of the UK at that time, he used terminology that everybody used but turned it back on the public.

Just to add to my point, people still find Roy Chubby Brown and Bernard Manning funny, so to say EE are racists and all the same, its only a probelm which effects them is stupid.
