Technically gifted, my arse.
His main attribute is his ability to put himself about, both in possession and when chasing down opponents. He is pretty strong and not scared of sticking his elbow/shoulder/arse into an opponent. He needs to get fit, something that he hasn't bothered to do for the last two seasons. Then his main attributes will be fully utilised.
He is technically average with the ball at his feet. His passing and positional sense are dire. He has no pace. His finishing is usually disappointing.
Overall, he's an okay player.
I disagree strongly. Fryatt is a very able player who recently just couldn't be arsed. But positionally he's far superior to any other of our strikers, not that it's saying much - Campbell, for example, is dire, positionally, and John hasn't got instant acceleration which is Fryatt's saving grave. Instant acceleration for me is better than mere pace and is the key to beating the offside trap. And Fryatt turns on a sixpence, something else I like about him, and turns the defender the wrong way. He has fast feet, and a really good centre of gravity. I like him when he's on song, as he was today, and reads the game very well when he concentrates.
Today was the best I've seen him, Stearman and Clemence play for a while.
Given the nature of the Championship, Fryett is potentially as good as any striker in it. The question mark is on his commitment and concentration.
All my opinion, of course, and I could be totally wrong.........
