If those stats are true, then the general public of the UK are much thicker than I had originally given them credit for.

They ignore the specialists, the advertising campaigns, the endless warnings on hospital/surgery walls, but they listen to Jade Goody, possibly one of the most vile women ever to grace a TV screen.

Maybe, or maybe its just that a real life story helps just make people stop for a second. Have you been checked for cancer or high cholesterol or any other health thing that gets advertising campaigns in the last year?

I have problems with my heart, a few months ago they were showing themselves and I went for a check. If they didn't present themselves then I wouldn't go.

I didn't go to the hospital because a celebrity died of a heart attack.

Some people on this thread wishing good riddance to her death and some people not on this thread saying quite blatently "she deserved to die" would suggest otherwise, and the thought she deserved to die never entered my head, thats why the word "dont" was used

I am now of the opinion you know somebody who wasn't aware of the dangers of cancer before Jade Goody contracted it and that person has now been for a check. Would I be correct?

But Melts has a valid point. These people must already have known about Cancer and the possibility of screening. I'm a man and I couldn't help but know about breast and cervical cancer because the NHS etc... have harped on about it for the last 30 years.

If they only realised about it because of Jade goody I wonder if they know about contraception or beecham's flu powder etc...

Personally I also know about testicular cancer and know I'm at risk, but I haven't been checked out, I guess I'm waiting for Oliver cookboy to start dieing of it before I get checked out.

But just what is the point here? It seems like a rant for the sake of a rant. Who cares why someone decides to go and get checked? If someone decides to get screened or checked for possible health problems which could save their life then its surely nothing but a good thing, whatever the reason they decided to do it was

And i very much doubt they hadnt realised about it before, it was just the story was in the publics eye and was a real-life first hand story of someone who everyone (or at least most people) knew of, and it just kinda showed anyone could be at risk. That just caused it to play with people emotions than adverts, which from personal experience i see probably once in passing every 3 or 4 months

Ill admit i was no fan of the woman, but i do think a lot of the criticism and certainly some people (not saying anyone on here, but i have certainly heard some people say it) who give the opinion she deserved to die is very harsh imo. Different strokes of course

I thought this thread was about Jade goody and her death as opposed to people getting health checks. I merely continued your off-thread discussion agreeing with Melton. I also agree with you that people getting health checks when needed is not a bad thing.

I'm surprised that anyone doesn't know someone personally who has/had cancer or who has had a cervical smear. In fact I think it's far more worrying that the "first timers" who have only had a smear because of Jade goody, hadn't been spoken to by their own mothers (or that they had ignored them) or even their own friends.

btw guys a dirty willie can cause cervical cancer - wash your bellend before sex. Don't say that an acquaintance never warned you.
