our season in my opinion.
Mr Pearson and Mandaric will need to outflank the market to make sure we can stay on top of this incredibly tight division....(3 points cover the top six).
With money thin on the ground, i think Mattock should go in order to finance 3 players (striker and 2 midfielders). Fryatt should definitely not be left hanging on a contract offer - he's the second most prolific striker in english football this season. you don't swap that.

Without three decent quality players, i have no doubt we'll stay top six, but we don't have enough quality in depth to feel secure for a whole season.
As we've seen - if we lose any three of Howard, Fryatt, Oakley, Tunchev or (god forbid) Dyer we are a much, much worse side.

Crewe on Tuesday to go five unbeaten and create something of a gap at the top. Pearson is doing a magic job and should be entrusted with a bit of investment. The cost of not building on this early season success are much to large to think about. after all, we won't average 20,000 for a second season in league one.

i think ours is the easiest of all though - so there's potential we'll put some distance between us and 1 or 2 of the top six. i don't expect all of the top six to get three points.

if campbell can learn the offside rule and stay fit i think he'll fancy tuesday night playing alongside fryatt, dyer, oakley etc.

For me statement of intent would be for us to bring in some of the star performers from lower down the division or proven league oners. Such as:

Sam Vokes from Wolves on loan (he's not getting a sniff ahead of Iwelumo, Ebanks Blacke and Keogh, and ran amock in league one) + they got stearman at a snip.
Ricky Lambert - Bristol Rovers are going nowhere. He's better than Howard.
Joel Porter - one of the best strikers i've seen come to the walkers this season.
Danny Welbeck - worth a punt - after all we have Arsenal and Liverpool players on loan

Welbeck is getting more of a look in at Utd than Hobbs and Gilbert were at Liverpool and Arsenal though isn't he?

Would like some of Arsenal's Carling Cup players on loan but, as with Welbeck, think if they were available then Championship teams would be desperately fighting with each other to take them.

i think we've shown with hobbs, marting and gilbert that we are a good environment for young top flight fringe players this season. so i won't be surprised if we get another youngster on loan. top of the table lower league sides are a good place to send players for experience.
lambert, porter or vokes would mean teams really came to the walkers with a bit of fear. lambert and fryatt would be a top combination IMO as would Vokes/Fryatt. Who knows dyer, oakley, adams or gradel might have someone able to actually head goals from good crosses! Howard can't do that regularly any more. Very limited impact on the game IMO.

freddie eastwood would be a decent shout too. a league one success.

I am in awe of Sparky 79s knowledge of this division. Is Sparky 79 really a pseudonym for Steve Walsh (scout not centreback)?
I can accept Joe Mattock leaving for the Premiership for a serious fee. The Third Division is not the place for a possible future England player. I would be very disappointed if we lost Fryatt, Dyer or Tunchev.
The debate over who should replace Steve Howard for the Scunthorpe match showed that we do not have any other big strikers. Whatever side you take in the debate over Steve Howard there should be competition for his place. If Mattock joins a Premiership club then there might be a loan included as part of the deal.
With Steve Clemence not coming back this season (if ever) I think Oakley and King need some competition. One question that interests me is David Martin in goal. Am I right that his loan period ends in January? If so should we try and extend it?

The fact that we've signed Powell, Berner and Edworthy already since the close of the window suggests to me that we won't be signing anyone in January unless we off load a few first.

I can't see anyone coming in, even if we sell Mattock. A new contract for Matty and thats the only bit of business I think NP will be interested in.

I suspect there may be a further twist personally; but I truly have absolutely no inside knowledge on this at all, pure speculation.

He's playing for Cov now.

It seems Mattock's on his way (I hope the scouts weren't there today :icon_roll). Personally I'd sell him and then say to Pearson here's your money get a quality midfielder in but that will never happen.

Also agree with Alex's sentiment that Fryatt's contract talks may take a twist if he doesn't sign by January. I can see a few sneaky Championship sides but the feelers on him.

Fryatt should definitely not be left hanging on a contract offer - he's the second most prolific striker in english football this season.

Third, behind Rickie Lambert (17) and German Breakfast (18)

Naming two players he's seen play recently? Hardly Arsene Wenger :icon_bigg

One question that interests me is David Martin in goal. Am I right that his loan period ends in January? If so should we try and extend it?

No, we should hope the end of his deal comes without him ever playing another minute, and have a party when he goes home.

Goalkeeper- I think we should spend just under 500k on an assured and decent goalie. Hendo's contract is up in the summer? I think although he is playing ok, it maybe time to get rid of him and Martin is off as well.

Right Back- Gilbert is good and my first choice, but we lack in that department. Hopefully get someone in on the cheap.

Right Winger- We could do with someone who is consistent, experienced and can put a cross in.

Centre Midfielder- A dog-fighter who is willing to put the tackles in and willing to break a sweat. (We may already have this in Kishishev but i've rarely seen him, when I have I've thought he looked ok?!)
