Jeffers would be great - If he can score one every other game for a very very poor Ipswich then he should do fine for us! HIs prem record is poor but we arent there (yet).
Nine games at Ipswich isn't a very long period to judge a player on, his four goals could have all been flukes. Jeffers has not been a regular starter at any of his clubs since leaving Everton six years ago, maybe he has fitness issues, or has just not been good enough.
I realise he may be a different prospect dropping down a division, but I would hope if we do sign him we treat him as a Championship player - by paying him wages appropriate for this level, rather than what he's been used to in the past.
Ipswich pull plug on Jeffers move
Ipswich have withdrawn their interest in Francis Jeffers after failing to agree terms with the Blackburn striker.
Town say they were close to agreeing a fee with Rovers but baulked at the 26-year-old's financial demands.
"We made what we felt was a lucrative offer that could exceed what he is earning at Blackburn," chairman David Sheepshanks told the club website.
"The positive news is that I can confirm that we have now made an offer to another player."
Former Everton and Arsenal forward Jeffers scored four goals in nine appearances when on loan at Ipswich last season.
He made it clear that he was keen on a permanent move to Portman Road.
But Sheepshanks said: "Despite our extensive efforts, we have not been able to match what the player wants financially.
"We have a duty to protect the wage structure at this club and will not put that at risk.
"The offer we made to Franny was a very good one in line with his status, however, now we move on."
Jeffers joined Blackburn on a two-year deal in July 2006 but has struggled to hold down a first-team place.
Might still be on............
