That'll explain why there were so many local derbies in the first round. Leicester had by far the furthest journey last night - was it fixed by the league to make it more difficult for us?

It will always be the case that midlands clubs will never be certain which group they will be put into. Similarly, the chances are that midlands clubs will have further to travel.

A club like Macclesfield could only be asked to travel as far as, say, Walsall or Carlisle. Midlands clubs might have to go anywhere in the country in these first two rounds.

I can't see why people might be bothered. It seems to me to be a good idea to keep travel costs down as much as possible in the early stages of a minor competitiion for the sake both of the clubs and their supporters. Regionalistaion is a good way of doing this.

The way they've divided the Northern section is ridiculous.

Please explain why. A line drawn down the middle of the country seems to be a good way to separate east from west.

If they're going to regionalise it, splitting the Northern section into four groups of six teams would allow for a situation where no team has to travel more than 100 miles for a match.
Either do it properly to cut down on travelling, or don't bother at all.

If you split it down that far, teams would be playing the same few teams every year in the 1st and 2nd rounds. Do Carlisle really want to play Morecambe every second season?

This competition is already more regionalised than any competition in the top 7 levels of the football pyramid and even at the 8th level there are journeys of around 100 miles or more.

Teams play the same opponents in the league every season, so why not in the early rounds of a cup they're not that bothered about?
At least local derbies might attract a few more fans.

Not that Carlisle have any local derbies, Morecambe is the closest team they could get in this competition, at 71 miles away. I'm sure they'd rather play them than go to Chester or Crewe, which are more than twice as far.

Could not care less.

This is no different from what the local non-league sides, such as Shepshed Dynamo, Quorn, Hinkley etc have suffered. Football needs to realise that there's a great big thing between the North and South. It's called the Midlands and it needs it's own leagues and cups.

I agree ,would be good to have Midlands cup ,just don't know where clubs would fit in it though TBH

What with the beer cup, paint cup and FA cup.

Darlington away, cos I ain't been there.(And it's not as far as Hartlepool so we'd be home before 11pm!)

I'd finish up on the same coach from London, so would be home just after 10 in the morning.

As Leeds form at the moment is so-so and ours is rather good, I think that playing and beating them would further increase the optimism and confidence of the team and further knock that of Leeds.

Anyway, we'll beat whoever we get drawn against. So there.
