Evening guys been away for a few weeks, read some reports here that people are concerned about RK! The fact of the matter is he is working on a shoe string budget, with average players, that is why he is playing the style of football we are playing.
I feel he has to play Fryatt and Hume consistently, even if Hume is out of sorts! he will play himself back into form. I have this nagging feeling that the pre season was a cock up, even though the birch said he felt that the pre season was spot on, all we have do is improve on last season and gradually improve on building a youthfull squad, we need to be looking at a three year plan, I can not see us entertaining play offs this year nor can I see us in a relegation dog fight, patience is the key, Kelly needs a full season under his belt to learn lets wait and see!

I was merely saying what birch stated on air, Kelly ran the pre season their is no question of that, just feel he made mistakes as the team was clearly off the pace!

with all due respect WTF does Birchenall know about managing a football team?

I agree with that, I think we have to lower our sights a little, theres no good getting rid of Kelly just because we're not challenging for promotion, were not gonna be doing that for a long time to come. Chopping and changing managers all the time has been part of the problem, an unavoidable one cos theres no way we shudda stuck with Basset or Adams or Levien.

I'm personally starting to wonder if Holloway might have been a better bet, but the club have made their decision and at the time I was shouting as loud as anyone for Kelly to be the new man. If we give one manager a chance to stamp their mark on the club I think that would be a step in the right direction. At the moment we're a mish mash of too many people's unfinished plans.

IMO question doesnt even need thinking about, hes doing nothing wrong we do not have a god given right to be challenging for promotion, thats just where we are right now and other than MON i cant think of anyone else who would be doing a better job right now? Whats the alternative Peter Reid???

Remember 18 months ago west ham fans wanted Pardew out they kept the faith (heard that somewhere else) and now look at them?

the only thing i can see that kelly is doing wrong is playing fryatt at the moment, i did miss the first few games but so far this season from games i have seen he has been shite. hume comes on and looks like he is intent on scoring, why not him instead of fryatt?

I don't believe that Kelly neither is nor should be under pressure as yet, however there are fundamental weaknesses that will prevent us from being a team capable of challenging for the play offs.

IMO there is enough talent in the squad to at least be challenging for a top six berth, however our approach to many of the games this season have been with a 'We must not lose' attitude rather than really taking the game by the scruff of the neck and going all out for a win. In this sense Kelly is now replicating some of the mistakes made by his predecessor.

Kelly performed a minor miracle last season, however the situation decreed that we had to win football matches, it was sh1t or bust and Kelly knew he had to send a team out designed to win the game, and it showed in the fact that he seemed to get the best out of the squad, hence an upturn in expectancy for this campaign.

IMO he is now displaying a caution that is stifling our players and thus reducing their effectiveness, yes I agree he has little in the way of transfer funds but he still had enough at his disposal to enable the signing of 4 players and in many people's eyes he failed to solve a number of the issues that were so obvious to so many.

Whilst I truly believe we will not be relegated under Kelly, I also cannot see RK being the man to replicate what Billy Davies at Preston or Aidy Boothroyd at Watford achieved in taking an unfancied side with limited resources to the play offs.

I think he's a decent coach but i'm less sure he's going to be a decent Manager. His eye for a Player I find particulary worrying.

I think another problem is we're not an 'unfancied' side. Not many pundits would be too surprised if a club like ours challenged for promotion and out fans are absolutely positive we should be in the Premiership!

Too be honest we should certainly be top half, the second half of last season showed if we took games by the scruff of the neck we were more than capable of getting results, yet we seem to have reverted back to being a team that show far too much respect and fear to opposing teams. We need to concentrate on trying to win each game, IMO too much emphasis is placed on what the opposition might do rather than concentrating on what our team are capable of, this approach blighted Levein's reign and Kelly seems at present to be following suit, we need to remove the tactical shackles and give it a go.

I don't think the squad is a particularly happy one at the moment; some of the players wanted a move in the summer and didn't get it, some of the young lads think they have made it allready and RK seems to lack the confidence to install the necessary discipline in the squad.

Nothing there that cannot be solved quickly, with the right action.

I take it this is inside info, however I am inclined to agree, RK does seem a soft touch and that maybe he is frightned to have a real go at the players for fear of losing the dressing room.

But this soft touch will lead to a lack of respect and discipline and ultimately result in a continuation of the mediocrity. Maybe if true this highlights the inexperience and the pitfalls of appointing a first time manager.

RK needs to learn and quickly otherwise the problem could snowball, he cannot be the 'friend to the players' that he was when Assistant. He needs to address this, as my fear is that we could be replicating the problems seen at Peterborough United as seen on the Big Ron Manager documentary. The similarities seem remarkable.

I am sure you know what you are talking about...and its pretty damning stuff.

Not sure how your final sentence hangs with the rest. Did you worry that you had been a bit too frank?

Who wanted a move in the summer?

I'd say its pretty easy to guesss from current performances.

Maybury?
Fryatt?
Stearman?
Williams?

Presumably Kisnorbo could have been in there too until we offered him a bit extra wedge?? Maybe thats whats the others a hacked off about??
