Also any club is on a winner when Wigan comes in. Because everyone knows that Wigan pay way over the odds money to persuade players to join them.

They might have to pay over the odds wages to persuade players to join them but that shouldn't affect the transfer fee the selling cub receives.

More likely that they have to pay over the odds for players because clubs know they're desperate to sign a lot of new players and they have a rich benefactor.

feck me, and heres me thinking DC went for well over the odds, when all the time it was market value

Not only can the player negotiate higher wages, surely the clubs can negotiate higher prices :102:

Did you not read my second paragraph?
I did, but it didn't register, Sorry Jeff, you are saying the same as my post

All this agreeing has to stop. It's becoming really worrying.

I agree with you both.

Exactly, Dave Wheelan is an old guy who is determined to keep Wigan up there and he is prepared to make other clubs offers they can't refuse.

In the normal run of things I wouldn't rate Kisnorbo's transfer value at more than £400k to £500k and think he would be a real gamble at premiership level - so if in the unlikely event that they are talking 6 figures then the club should snatch their fingers off.

The interesting point will be reached when we receive an approach for one of our better, younger players...and at that point we will get a better guide to the how the financial pressures on the club are impacting.

I'll tell you right now redditch, we're a selling club and will be for a while. If anyone offered silly money for Stearman or Fryatt we'd sell, simple.

Agreed, those who think we aren't are living in a dream world

How much is silly money though...? If someone offers 750k, a million, or 1.5 for Stearman or Fryatt, are we hard up enough that we'll sell? I get that we're a selling club, I just want to know how much we'd be willing to sell our 'stars' for.

It's all relative, factors like how desperate we are for cash, how ambitious we are and whether we are poised to improve will all contribute. But crucially it is how shrewd RK is in negotiating transfer fees. By stating the importance of Paddy K. for the forthcoming season might make preying clubs like Wigan (knowing they have been paying generous sums in purchasing players of recent) may feel the need to up the stakes.

The cold hard facts are that as others have stated we are and we will be a selling club for many years, as long as we continue with the transfer policy adopted by CL of buying or developing up and coming younger players from the lower leagues or top league reserves then the likelihood will always be that should these players produce then the premiership piranhas will come calling.

Every City player is avaliable for transfer, and should a club come offering silly money that can aide the clubs long term future and possibly help the club fund more rebuilding then it has to be the way we go.

Look at the Connolly deal, sold for silly money enabling the signings of Hume and latterly Fryatt and swelling the coffers, both these players have now increased their value which should they move on will enable the club to go out and repeat the process. This is how many of the clubs in the championship have to operate and it is something we have to get used to, if we don't want to see this happen then I suggest a return to the Micky Adams transfer policy may well be the only solution.

We have to be realistic, we all wanted a young, hungry and vibrant team, we are now starting to see the benefits but along with that the consequences have to be taken on board as well.

That is spot on. And they are the issues that will be tested before long ...and we shall find out how poor the financial position really is.
