If ever you find yourself in Northampton I can highly recommend Balti Central, good food, generous portions and not expensive.

Went to the Middleton in Cosby a couple of weeks ago. Very nice small restaurant. Excellent service good food. Food was served very quickly without feeling rushed. A bit expensive but ok for a special occasion.
8.5/10

I have heard good things about the Hammer & Pincers in Wymeswold. Does anyone have any comments about this place?

Can anybody recommend a good (as in good food, good atmosphere, nice surroundings) restaurant suitable for celebrating a special birthday. Major consideration is that it has to be child-friendly (under fives).

Does such a place exist in Leicestershire? :icon_conf

Depends on how old they are, how embarassing they are in restaurants and when and where you want to eat, I guess. For us (now with just one under 5), dim sum at the Shanghai Moon on the High St on a Sunday lunchtime is more interesting than most child-friendly pubs.

Thank you Dour.

I'm still waiting on Lako to return with his comprehensive list of establishments. No doubt it is such a mammouth task it is taking him most of the night to compile it.

I shall add your recommendation to Lako's list if it isn't already included.

But if you want a decent place where the kids can run around while you tuck into to some reasonable trough and booze at a nice location, Rothley Court is worth a shout.

My advice:

Leave the little shits at home or failing that, stay at home with them. People go out for a meal for a relaxing time not to be terrorised by children.

Agreed Durham, they shouldn't be allowed in Restaraunts or Pubs at any time IMO

I agree, and if I wasn't confident that my nephews would behave themselves, then they would stay at home.

So, do "decent" restaurants only serve adult portions?

Seems a shame that my Mum can't celebrate in the way she wishes to if they do.
